Thirty-eight years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.

Between the time we left Kadesh Barnea and the time we went across the Zered Valley, 38 years had passed. By then, all the fighting men who had been in our camp from the beginning had died. The Lord had warned them that it would happen.

And the time from our leaving Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the brook Zered was thirty-eight years, until the entire generation, that is, the men of war, had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.

“ Thirty eight years passed from the time we first left Kadesh barnea until we finally crossed the Zered Brook! By then, all the men old enough to fight in battle had died in the wilderness, as the Lord had vowed would happen.

The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley was thirty-eight years until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.

Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh barnea until we crossed over the Wadi Zered was thirty eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from within the camp, just as the Lord had sworn to them.

Now the length of time it took for us to go from Kadesh Barnea to the crossing of Wadi Zered was thirty-eight years, time for all the military men of that generation to die, just as the LORD had vowed to them.

The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty- eight years: until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the middle of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them.

“耶和华听见你们这话，就发怒，起誓说：‘这恶世代的人，连一个也不得见我起誓应许赐给你们列祖的美地；

并且我在旷野向他们起誓，必不领他们进入我所赐给他们流奶与蜜之地，那地在万国中是有荣耀的；

所以，我在怒中起誓，说：“他们断不可进入我的安息！”

但被数的人中，没有一个是摩西和祭司亚伦从前在西奈的旷野所数的以色列人，因为耶和华论到他们说：“他们必要死在旷野。”所以，除了耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚以外，连一个人也没有存留。

“我们照着耶和华我们神所吩咐的，从何烈山起行，经过你们所看见那大而可怕的旷野，往亚摩利人的山地去，到了加低斯巴尼亚。

你们告诉他们，耶和华说：‘我指着我的永生起誓，我必要照你们达到我耳中的话待你们。你们的尸首必倒在这旷野，并且你们中间凡被数点、从二十岁以外、向我发怨言的，必不得进我起誓应许叫你们住的那地；惟有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚才能进去。但你们的妇人孩子，就是你们所说、要被掳掠的，我必把他们领进去，他们就得知你们所厌弃的那地。至于你们，你们的尸首必倒在这旷野；你们的儿女必在旷野飘流四十年，担当你们淫行的罪，直到你们的尸首在旷野消灭。按你们窥探那地的四十日，一年顶一日，你们要担当罪孽四十年，就知道我与你们疏远了，我耶和华说过，我总要这样待这一切聚集敌我的恶会众；他们必在这旷野消灭，在这里死亡。’”

但他们中间多半是神不喜欢的人，所以在旷野倒毙。

我们经过的日子都在你震怒之下；我们度尽的年岁好像一声叹息。

于是你们在加低斯住了许多日子。”

你使人归于尘土，说：“你们世人要归回。”

就不可硬着心，像在旷野惹他发怒、试探他的时候一样。在那里，你们的祖宗试我探我，并且观看我的作为有四十年之久。所以，我厌烦那世代的人，说：‘他们心里常常迷糊，竟不晓得我的作为！’我就在怒中起誓说：‘他们断不可进入我的安息。’”弟兄们，你们要谨慎，免得你们中间或有人存着不信的恶心，把永生神离弃了。总要趁着还有今日，天天彼此相劝，免得你们中间有人被罪迷惑，心里就刚硬了。我们若将起初确实的信心坚持到底，就在基督里有份了。经上说：“你们今日若听他的话，就不可硬着心，像惹他发怒的日子一样。”那时，听见他话惹他发怒的是谁呢？岂不是跟着摩西从埃及出来的众人吗？神四十年之久，又厌烦谁呢？岂不是那些犯罪、尸首倒在旷野的人吗？又向谁起誓，不容他们进入他的安息呢？岂不是向那些不信从的人吗？这样看来，他们不能进入安息是因为不信的缘故了。

从前主救了他的百姓出埃及地，后来就把那些不信的灭绝了。这一切的事，你们虽然都知道，我却仍要提醒你们。

所以，他对他们起誓：必叫他们倒在旷野，

‘凡从埃及上来、二十岁以外的人断不得看见我对亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓应许之地，因为他们没有专心跟从我。
