If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.

Sometimes a prophet will announce something in the name of the Lord. And it won’t take place or come true. Then that’s a message the Lord hasn’t told him to speak. That prophet has dared to speak on his own authority. So don’t be afraid of what he says.

現在你們的祖先在哪裡呢？那些先知能活到永遠嗎？然而，我吩咐我僕人——眾先知的訓言和律例豈不應驗在你們祖先的頭上了嗎？後來他們悔改了，說，萬軍之耶和華按著我們的所作所為報應了我們，正如祂所言。』」

告訴我們將要發生的事，給我們說說以前發生的事，我們好思想，以便明白事情的結局。向我們宣告將來的事，

約拿進城走了一天，宣告說：「再過四十天尼尼微就要毀滅了！」
