If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates, then you shall arise, and go up to the place which Yahweh your God chooses.

“你城中若起了争讼的事，或因流血，或因争竞，或因殴打，是你难断的案件，你就当起来，往耶和华你神所选择的地方

“你城中若有难以判断的案件，涉及流血，诉讼，或殴打等争讼的事，你就要起来，上到那里，耶和华—你上帝所选择的地方，

『在你城內若有案件在流血與流血之間、辯訴與辯訴之間、毆打與毆打之間、爭訟的點太離奇、不是你所能判斷的，那麼你就要起來，上永恆主你的上帝所要選擇的地方，

如爾邑中有訟事、為流血、為爭競、為鬥毆、爾所難鞫者、則當詣爾上帝耶和華所選之處、

如爾邑中有訟事、為流血、為爭競、為加害、爾所難鞫者、則必詣爾上帝耶和華特簡之室、

如爾邑中有詞訟、或因流血、或因爭競、或因鬥傷、爾所難鞫者、則當起、往主爾天主所選之處、

If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge— whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults— take them to the place the Lord your God will choose.

People will bring their cases to your courts. But some cases will be too hard for you to judge. They might be about murders, attacks or other crimes. Then take those hard cases to the place the Lord your God will choose.

“ If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place that the Lord your God will choose.

“ Suppose a case arises in a local court that is too hard for you to decide— for instance, whether someone is guilty of murder or only of manslaughter, or a difficult lawsuit, or a case involving different kinds of assault. Take such legal cases to the place the Lord your God will choose,

“ If a case is too difficult for you— concerning bloodshed, lawsuits, or assaults— cases disputed at your city gates, then go up to the place the LORD your God chooses.

“ If a case is too difficult for you to decide, between one kind of homicide or another, between one kind of lawsuit or another, and between one kind of assault or another, that are cases of dispute in your courts, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

“ If a matter arises which is too hard for you to judge, between degrees of guilt for bloodshed, between one judgment or another, or between one punishment or another, matters of controversy within your gates, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates; then shalt thou arise, and get thee up unto the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose;

“ If a case is too difficult for you— concerning bloodshed, lawsuits, or assaults— cases disputed at your gates, you must go up to the place the Lord your God chooses.

If a matter is too difficult for you to judge– bloodshed, legal claim, or assault– matters of controversy in your villages– you must leave there and go up to the place the LORD your God chooses.

But to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, you shall seek his habitation, and you shall come there.

“ Yahweh of Armies says: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

“ If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull shall surely be stoned, and its meat shall not be eaten; but the owner of the bull shall not be held responsible.

Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.The one woman said,“ Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, it was dead; but when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I bore.”The other woman said,“ No; but the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said,“ No; but the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.Then the king said,“ One says,‘ This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead;’ and the other says,‘ No; but your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”The king said,“ Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.The king said,“ Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said,“ Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said,“ He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”Then the king answered,“ Give her the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

“ If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, the man shall surely be punished.

then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Yahweh, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed Levites and priests, and of the heads of the fathers’ households of Israel, for the judgment of Yahweh, and for controversies. They returned to Jerusalem.He commanded them, saying,“ You shall do this in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.Whenever any controversy comes to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, you must warn them, that they not be guilty toward Yahweh, and so wrath come on you and on your brothers. Do this, and you will not be guilty.

then you shall appoint for yourselves cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the man slayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.

This is the case of the man slayer who shall flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him in time past—

The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death. When he meets him, he shall put him to death.If he shoved him out of hatred, or hurled something at him while lying in wait, so that he died,or in hostility struck him with his hand, so that he died, he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.“‘ But if he shoved him suddenly without hostility, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him so that he died, and he was not his enemy and not seeking his harm,then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances.The congregation shall deliver the man slayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he had fled. He shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.“‘ But if the man slayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge where he flees,and the avenger of blood finds him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the man slayer, he shall not be guilty of blood,because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest, the man slayer shall return into the land of his possession.“‘ These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.“‘ Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain based on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify alone against any person so that he dies.“‘ Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death. He shall surely be put to death.“‘ You shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.“‘ So you shall not pollute the land where you live; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, where I dwell; for I, Yahweh, dwell among the children of Israel.’”

“ If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, and yet no harm follows, he shall be surely fined as much as the woman’s husband demands and the judges allow.

For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of Yahweh of Armies.

They judged the people at all times. They brought the hard cases to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

“‘ But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.

where the tribes go up, even Yah’s tribes, according to an ordinance for Israel, to give thanks to Yahweh’s name.For there are set thrones for judgment, the thrones of David’s house.

“ One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death,but not if it is unintentional, but God allows it to happen; then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee.If a man schemes and comes presumptuously on his neighbor to kill him, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.

If the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt of bloodshed for him.

This is so that innocent blood will not be shed in the middle of your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, leaving blood guilt on you.But if any man hates his neighbor, lies in wait for him, rises up against him, strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;

You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”
