He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

The king must not have many wives. If he does, they will lead him astray. He must not store up large amounts of silver and gold.

And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

因此人將離開父母，與妻子結合，二人就成為一體。

求你使虛妄和虛謊的事遠離我；求你使我不貧窮也不富裕，只要把我所需要的糧食分給我，免得我飽足了，就否認你，說：「耶和華是誰呢？」又免得我陷入窮困，就去偷竊，以致干犯了我神的名。

你不要依靠欺壓，也不要妄想搶奪；即使財富增加，也不要放在心上。

並且說：『為這緣故，人將離開父母，與妻子結合，兩個人就成為一體。』

大衛在希伯崙生了幾個兒子：長子暗嫩，是耶斯列人婭希暖所生；次子基利押，是納巴爾的遺孀迦密人婭比蓋所生；三子押沙龍，是基述王塔爾邁的女兒瑪迦的兒子；四子亞多尼雅，是哈及的兒子；五子示法提雅，是亞比塔的兒子；六子以特念，是大衛的妻子以格拉所生。這些兒子都是大衛在希伯崙所生的。

接著耶穌對他們說：「你們要注意，要提防一切貪心，因為一個人的生命不在於他財產的豐厚。」

對那些今世富有的人，你當吩咐他們不可高傲自大，也不可把盼望寄託在靠不住的財富上，而要寄託在神身上，神把萬物豐豐富富地賜給我們享受。

神難道不是把你們造成一體，又把他的靈分配給了你們嗎？神要的是什麼呢？是屬神的後裔。所以你們當謹守自己的心靈，不可背棄年輕時所娶的妻子。

至於那些想發財的人就會陷入試探、網羅以及很多無知有害的欲望裡；這些欲望使人沉溺在敗壞和滅亡中。

耶穌對他的門徒們說：「我確實地告訴你們：富有的人進入天國會很困難。我再告訴你們：駱駝穿過針眼，比富有的人進入神的國更容易呢！」

那被撒進種子的『荊棘叢』是這樣的人：他聽了這話語，但今世的憂慮和財富的迷惑把話語擠住了，他就成了不結果實的。

「你們不要為自己在地上積蓄財寶，地上有蟲蛀，會鏽蝕，也有盜賊鑽進來偷竊；而要為自己在天上積蓄財寶：天上既沒有蟲蛀，也不會鏽蝕，也沒有盜賊鑽進來偷竊。
