be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses. He must be from among your fellow Israelites. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not an Israelite.

你总要立耶和华你神所拣选的人为王。必从你弟兄中立一人；不可立你弟兄以外的人为王。

When that happens, make sure you appoint over yourselves a king the Lord your God chooses. He must be from among your own people. Don’t appoint over yourselves someone from another country. Don’t choose anyone who isn’t from one of the tribes of Israel.

you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.

Samuel said to all the people,“ Do you see the man the Lord has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.” Then the people shouted,“ Long live the king!”

Of all my sons— and the Lord has given me many— he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

Do not run until your feet are bare and your throat is dry. But you said,‘ It’s no use! I love foreign gods, and I must go after them.’

So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said,“ Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,

In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you,‘ You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’”

Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed this to Samuel:“ About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel; he will deliver them from the hand of the Philistines. I have looked on my people, for their cry has reached me.”When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the Lord said to him,“ This is the man I spoke to you about; he will govern my people.”

“ I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

These are the numbers of the men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron to turn Saul’s kingdom over to him, as the Lord had said:

Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?”
