Remember that you were once slaves in the land of Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you! That is why I am giving you this command.

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today.

“ I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.This is real love— not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.

He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

“ If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said,‘ You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me.Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

“ Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance— all who seek the Lord! Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined.

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your oxen and donkeys and other livestock, and any foreigners living among you. All your male and female servants must rest as you do.Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, but the Lord your God brought you out with his strong hand and powerful arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to rest on the Sabbath day.

In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope.
