Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you; that is why I am giving you this command today.

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today.

And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. Do not do any work— you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey, any of your livestock, or the resident alien who lives within your city gates, so that your male and female slaves may rest as you do.Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the LORD your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

At that time you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.
