彼既滅於爾前、爾當慎之、勿受誘而從之、勿問其神、自謂斯族若何事神、我亦如之、

則當謹恪、勿陷於坎阱、勿求其上帝、意謂斯民服事其上帝、我亦必如是以行。

take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying,‘ How did these nations serve their gods?— that I also may do the same.’

主爾之天主所將付爾列邦之民、爾必滅之、勿加矜恤、勿事其神、恐使爾陷於網羅、

爾心曰、我欲似異邦、似列國之族、崇拜木石、爾此心意、必不得成、

主如是云、勿傚異邦人之習俗、異邦人雖因天象之兆畏懼、爾勿畏懼、

必驅逐其地之居民、毀其雕鑿鎔鑄之偶像、除其邱壇、

故我念主而勸爾、勿復逞虛妄之心而行、如他異邦人、

我導之入我所誓以賜之地、彼見崇高之山、茂盛之樹、遂在彼獻祭奉禮物、干犯我怒、又在彼焚香灌奠、

主命斯民勦滅異邦、竟不聽從、與異邦人雜處、遂效其習俗、崇拜異邦之偶像、陷溺罪網、屠戮子女、祭祀鬼魔、殺害無辜之兒女、祀迦南之偶像、因而斯地被血污穢、

勿效乎此世、爾心維新而自化、使爾明辨天主之旨、其旨至善可悅且純全者也、

我從異邦人之意、邪侈、縱慾、放飲、饕餮、沈湎、更行拜偶像可憎之事、往時如是已足矣、彼見爾不與之同淫佚放蕩、則異而謗爾、

我定爾界、由紅海至非利士海、由曠野至大河、我必將斯地之居民、付於爾手、必逐之於爾前、毋與斯民及其神立約、毋容其居爾境內、恐誘爾獲罪於我、爾若事其神、則必陷於罪網、

昔爾居伊及國、其民所行者毋效之、我將導爾至迦南地、其民所行者亦毋效之、且毋從其習俗、

惟爾不可與斯地之居民立約、當毀其祭壇、爾竟不遵我言、爾何為哉、今我有言曰、必不驅逐斯民於爾前、被為荊棘於爾脇、或作為攻爾之敵彼之諸神、必陷爾於網羅、

違棄主之律例、及主與其列祖所立之約、並主警戒之言、從虛無之神、行虛妄之事、主命之勿效四周異邦人所為、彼反從之、
