趕走比你們強大的民族，領你們進入他們的土地，把他們的土地賜給你們作產業，正如今日的情形。

「以色列人啊，你們要聽！今天你們要過約旦河，去趕出那些比你們強大的民族。他們住在城牆高聳入雲的大城裡，

你們的上帝耶和華將在你們前面漸漸地趕走那些民族，你們不可急速地滅盡他們，否則你們周圍的野獸會大增，危害你們。你們的上帝耶和華要將他們交給你們，使他們驚恐萬狀，直到被滅絕。

你要遵行我今天的吩咐。我必從你面前驅逐亞摩利人、迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人。

你所到之處，我必使那裡的人惶恐不安，使你一切的仇敵都在你面前轉身逃跑。我要派黃蜂做你的先鋒，趕走那些希未人、迦南人和赫人。我不會在一年之內把這些人全部趕走，免得土地荒涼，野獸肆虐。我會逐漸地趕走他們，直到你們人丁興旺，可以佔據那片土地。

你們能佔領他們的土地並非因為你們公義、行為正直。你們的上帝耶和華從你們面前趕走那些民族，是因為他們邪惡，也是為了實現祂給你們祖先亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的誓言。

「你們的上帝耶和華帶領你們進入將要佔領的土地時，會為你們趕走赫人、革迦撒人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人這七個比你們強大的民族。當你們的上帝耶和華把他們交在你們手裡、使你們打敗他們後，你們必須徹底毀滅他們。不可與他們立約，不可憐憫他們。
