“以色列人啊，你们要听！今天你们要过约旦河，去赶出那些比你们强大的民族。他们住在城墙高耸入云的大城里，

你们的上帝耶和华将在你们前面渐渐地赶走那些民族，你们不可急速地灭尽他们，否则你们周围的野兽会大增，危害你们。你们的上帝耶和华要将他们交给你们，使他们惊恐万状，直到被灭绝。

你要遵行我今天的吩咐。我必从你面前驱逐亚摩利人、迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人。

你所到之处，我必使那里的人惶恐不安，使你一切的仇敌都在你面前转身逃跑。我要派黄蜂做你的先锋，赶走那些希未人、迦南人和赫人。我不会在一年之内把这些人全部赶走，免得土地荒凉，野兽肆虐。我会逐渐地赶走他们，直到你们人丁兴旺，可以占据那片土地。

你们能占领他们的土地并非因为你们公义、行为正直。你们的上帝耶和华从你们面前赶走那些民族，是因为他们邪恶，也是为了实现祂给你们祖先亚伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的誓言。

“你们的上帝耶和华带领你们进入将要占领的土地时，会为你们赶走赫人、革迦撒人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人这七个比你们强大的民族。当你们的上帝耶和华把他们交在你们手里、使你们打败他们后，你们必须彻底毁灭他们。不可与他们立约，不可怜悯他们。
