So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.

And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.

So you also must love outsiders. Remember that you yourselves were outsiders in Egypt.

Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

You are also to love the resident alien, since you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt.

So show your love for the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Love ye therefore the sojourner; for ye were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

You also must love the foreigner, since you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

“ You must not mistreat or oppress foreigners in any way. Remember, you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.

“ Do not take advantage of foreigners who live among you in your land.Treat them like native born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

“ Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.

Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,and you say,“ Good bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”— but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

“ Right!” Jesus told him.“ Do this and you will live!”The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”Jesus replied with a story:“ A Jewish man was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.“ By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by.A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side.“ Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him,‘ Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’“ Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked.The man replied,“ The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said,“ Yes, now go and do the same.”

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion— how can God’s love be in that person?Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone— especially to those in the family of faith.
