But the LORD told me:“ Tell them this:‘ Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you and you will be defeated by your enemies.’”

But the Lord said to me,“ Tell them,‘ Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.’”

But the Lord spoke to me. He said,“ Tell them,‘ Do not go up and fight. I will not be with you. Your enemies will win the battle over you.’ ”

And the Lord said to me,‘ Say to them, Do not go up or fight, for I am not in your midst, lest you be defeated before your enemies.’

“ But the Lord told me to tell you,‘ Do not attack, for I am not with you. If you go ahead on your own, you will be crushed by your enemies.’

“ But the LORD said to me,‘ Tell them: Don’t go up and fight, for I am not with you to keep you from being defeated by your enemies.’

But the Lord said to me,‘ Say to them,“ Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; otherwise you will be defeated by your enemies.” ’

“ And the Lord said to me,‘ Tell them,“ Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.”’

And Jehovah said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

“ But the Lord said to me,‘ Tell them: Don’t go up and fight, for I am not with you to keep you from being defeated by your enemies.’

And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I[ am] not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

Yahweh said to me,“ Tell them,‘ Don’t go up and don’t fight; for I am not among you, lest you be struck before your enemies.’”

So the Philistines fought. Israel was defeated; they all ran home. The slaughter was very great; thirty thousand foot soldiers fell in battle.

But Moses said,“ Why are you now transgressing the commandment of the LORD? It will not succeed!Do not go up, for the LORD is not among you, and you will be defeated before your enemies.For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you will fall by the sword. Because you have turned away from the LORD, the LORD will not be with you.”

Even if they raise their children, I will take away every last one of them. Woe to them! For I will turn away from them.

Look, the LORD’s hand is not too weak to deliver you; his ear is not too deaf to hear you.But your sinful acts have alienated you from your God; your sins have caused him to reject you and not listen to your prayers.

The Philistines arranged their forces to fight Israel. As the battle spread out, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men in the battle line in the field.

If only we had been satisfied to live on the other side of the Jordan! O Lord, what can I say now that Israel has retreated before its enemies?When the Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will turn against us and destroy the very memory of us from the earth. What will you do to protect your great reputation?”The LORD responded to Joshua,“ Get up! Why are you lying there face down?Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenantal commandment! They have taken some of the riches; they have stolen them and deceitfully put them among their own possessions.The Israelites are unable to stand before their enemies; they retreat because they have become subject to annihilation. I will no longer be with you, unless you destroy what has contaminated you.Get up! Ritually consecrate the people and tell them this:‘ Ritually consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, because the LORD God of Israel says,“ You are contaminated, O Israel! You will not be able to stand before your enemies until you remove what is contaminating you.”

One thousand will scurry at the battle cry of one enemy soldier; at the battle cry of five enemy soldiers you will all run away, until the remaining few are as isolated as a flagpole on a mountaintop or a signal flag on a hill.”

I will set my face against you. You will be struck down before your enemies, those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when there is no one pursuing you.
