Where can we go up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, by saying,“ The people are bigger and taller than we; the cities are large and fortified up to heaven. And besides, we saw the sons of the Anakim there.” ’

However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover, we saw the children of Anak there.Amalek dwells in the land of the South. The Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwell in the hill country. The Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along the side of the Jordan.”Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said,“ Let’s go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it!”But the men who went up with him said,“ We aren’t able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.”They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying,“ The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.There we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim. We were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”

They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said, and he drove the three sons of Anak out of there.

There were none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

Nevertheless, my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Yahweh my God.

Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed. Trembling takes hold of the mighty men of Moab. All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, and there wasn’t any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

Therefore all hands will be feeble, and everyone’s heart will melt.

They said to Joshua,“ Truly Yahweh has delivered all the land into our hands. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.”

The officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say,“ What man is there who is fearful and faint- hearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brother’s heart melt as his heart.”

Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron.( The name of Hebron before that was Kiriath Arba.) They struck Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.
