‘ You shall not do injustice in judgment; you shall not show partiality to the poor nor give preference to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly.

You shall not distort justice, you shall not show partiality; and you shall not accept a bribe, because a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and distorts the words of the righteous.

These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.

He said to the judges,“ Consider what you are doing, for you do not judge for mankind but for the Lord who is with you when you render judgment.

Then they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult matter to Moses, but they would judge every minor matter themselves.

But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the Law as violators.

Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that they will bring to you every major matter, but they will judge every minor matter themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will carry the burden with you.

The fear of man brings a snare, But one who trusts in the Lord will be protected.

For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who does not show partiality, nor take a bribe.

“ You shall not pervert the justice due to your needy brother in his dispute.Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not acquit the guilty.

Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Nor crush the needy at the gate;For the Lord will plead their case And take the life of those who rob them.

And they* sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone.

For you have seized pledges from your brothers without cause, And stripped people naked.You have given the weary no water to drink, And you have withheld bread from the hungry.But the earth belongs to the powerful man, And the one who is honorable dwells on it.You have sent widows away empty, And the strength of orphans has been crushed.

“ If a case is too difficult for you to decide, between one kind of homicide or another, between one kind of lawsuit or another, and between one kind of assault or another, that are cases of dispute in your courts, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses.So you shall come to the Levitical priests or the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall inquire of them and they will declare to you the verdict.Then you shall act in accordance with the terms of the verdict which they declare to you from that place which the Lord chooses; and you shall be careful to act in accordance with everything that they instruct you to do.

As for evil, both hands do it well. The leader asks for a bribe, also the judge, And the great one speaks the capricious desire of his soul; So they plot it together.The best of them is like a thorn bush, The most upright like a thorn hedge. The day when you post your watchmen, Your punishment is coming. Then their confusion will occur.

Because I feared the great multitude And the contempt of families terrified me, And I kept silent and did not go out of doors?

If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;

“ If I have rejected the claim of my male or female slaves When they filed a complaint against me,What then could I do when God arises? And when He calls me to account, how am I to answer Him?Did He who made me in the womb not make him, And the same one create us in the womb?“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.Rescue the weak and needy; Save them from the hand of the wicked.

For when an ear heard, it called me blessed, And when an eye saw, it testified in support of me,Because I saved the poor who cried for help, And the orphan who had no helper.The blessing of the one who was about to perish came upon me, And I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a headband.I was eyes to those who were blind, And feet to those who could not walk.I was a father to the poor, And I investigated the case which I did not know.I broke the jaws of the wicked And rescued the prey from his teeth.

Opening his mouth, Peter said:“ I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality,but in every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.

But the Lord said to Samuel,“ Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

They came and* said to Him,“ Teacher, we know that You are truthful and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God in truth. Is it permissible to pay a poll tax to Caesar, or not?

You will surely wear out, both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.

And the spies questioned Him, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth.

You shall not follow the crowd in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to join together with a crowd in order to pervert justice;nor shall you show favor to a poor person in his dispute.

Therefore because you impose heavy rent on the poor And take a tribute of grain from them, Though you have built houses of cut stone, Yet you will not live in them; You have planted beautiful vineyards, yet you will not drink their wine.For I know your offenses are many and your sins are great, You who are hostile to the righteous and accept bribes, And turn away the poor from justice at the gate.

Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and His anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I exploited? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to close my eyes with it? I will return it to you.”And they said,“ You have not exploited us or oppressed us, or taken anything from anyone’s hand.”

My brothers and sisters, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and is dressed in bright clothes, and a poor man in dirty clothes also comes in,and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the bright clothes, and say,“ You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man,“ You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,”have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters: did God not choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

For the one who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.

So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were living with Naboth in his city.Now she had written in the letters, saying,“ Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people;and seat two worthless men opposite him, and have them testify against him, saying,‘ You cursed God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”So the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did just as Jezebel had sent word to them, just as it was written in the letters which she had sent them.They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth at the head of the people.Then the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him; and the worthless men testified against him, against Naboth, before the people, saying,“ Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.Then they sent word to Jezebel, saying,“ Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”

They are fat, they are sleek, They also excel in deeds of wickedness; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the orphan, so that they may be successful; And they do not defend the rights of the poor.Shall I not punish them for these things?’ declares the Lord,‘ Or shall I not avenge Myself On a nation such as this?’

Woe to those who devise wrongdoing, Who practice evil on their beds! When morning comes, they do it, Because it is in the power of their hands.They covet fields, so they seize them; And houses, so they take them. They exploit a man and his house, A person and his inheritance.Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am planning against this family a catastrophe From which you cannot remove your necks; And you will not walk haughtily, For it will be an evil time.

For there is no partiality with God.

And masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.

And I said,“ Hear now, you leaders of Jacob And rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know justice?You who hate good and love evil, Who tear off their skin from them And their flesh from their bones,Who eat the flesh of my people, Strip off their skin from them, Smash their bones, And chop them up as for the pot, And as meat in a cauldron!”Then they will cry out to the Lord, But He will not answer them. Instead, He will hide His face from them at that time Because they have practiced evil deeds.

Now, belt your garment around your waist and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, or I will make you dismayed before them.

For we will surely die and are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up. Yet God does not take away life, but makes plans so that the banished one will not be cast out from Him.

“ You shall not pervert the justice due a stranger or an orphan, nor seize a widow’s garment as a pledge.

but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not intending to please people, but to please God, who examines our hearts.
