“ Do not act unjustly when deciding a case. Do not be partial to the poor or give preference to the rich; judge your neighbor fairly.

Do not deny justice or show partiality to anyone. Do not accept a bribe, for it blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.

These sayings also belong to the wise: It is not good to show partiality in judgment.

Then he said to the judges,“ Consider what you are doing, for you do not judge for a man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the matter of judgment.

They judged the people at all times; they would bring the hard cases to Moses, but they would judge every minor case themselves.

If, however, you show favoritism, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

They should judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you every major case but judge every minor case themselves. In this way you will lighten your load, and they will bear it with you.

The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the LORD is protected.

For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God, showing no partiality and taking no bribe.

“ You must not deny justice to a poor person among you in his lawsuit.Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent and the just, because I will not justify the guilty.

Don’t rob a poor person because he is poor, and don’t crush the oppressed at the city gate,for the LORD will champion their cause and will plunder those who plunder them.

So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians.“ Teacher,” they said,“ we know that you are truthful and teach truthfully the way of God. You don’t care what anyone thinks nor do you show partiality.

For you took collateral from your brothers without cause, stripping off their clothes and leaving them naked.You gave no water to the thirsty and withheld food from the famished,while the land belonged to a powerful man and an influential man lived on it.You sent widows away empty-handed, and the strength of the fatherless was crushed.

“ If a case is too difficult for you— concerning bloodshed, lawsuits, or assaults— cases disputed at your city gates, then go up to the place the LORD your God chooses.You are to go to the Levitical priests and to the judge who presides at that time. Ask, and they will give you a verdict in the case.You must abide by the verdict they give you at the place the LORD chooses. Be careful to do exactly as they instruct you.

Both hands are good at accomplishing evil: the official and the judge demand a bribe; when the powerful man communicates his evil desire, they plot it together.The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is worse than a hedge of thorns. The day of your watchmen, the day of your punishment, is coming; at this time their panic is here.

because I greatly feared the crowds and because the contempt of the clans terrified me, so I grew silent and would not go outside?

If you appeal to the Father who judges impartially according to each one’s work, you are to conduct yourselves in reverence during your time living as strangers.

If I have dismissed the case of my male or female servants when they made a complaint against me,what could I do when God stands up to judge? How should I answer him when he calls me to account?Did not the one who made me in the womb also make them? Did not the same God form us both in the womb?If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,

Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.Rescue the poor and needy; save them from the power of the wicked.”

When they heard me, they blessed me, and when they saw me, they spoke well of me.For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, and the fatherless child who had no one to support him.The dying blessed me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice.I clothed myself in righteousness, and it enveloped me; my just decisions were like a robe and a turban.I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.I was a father to the needy, and I examined the case of the stranger.I shattered the fangs of the unjust and snatched the prey from his teeth.

Peter began to speak:“ Now I truly understand that God doesn’t show favoritism,but in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.

But the LORD said to Samuel,“ Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the LORD sees, for humans see what is visible, but the LORD sees the heart.”

When they came, they said to him,“ Teacher, we know you are truthful and don’t care what anyone thinks, nor do you show partiality but teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

“ You will certainly wear out both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you. You can’t do it alone.

They questioned him,“ Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and you don’t show partiality but teach truthfully the way of God.

They oppress the righteous, take a bribe, and deprive the poor of justice at the city gates.

Here I am. Bring charges against me before the LORD and his anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Who have I wronged or mistreated? Who gave me a bribe to overlook something? I will return it to you.”“ You haven’t wronged us, you haven’t mistreated us, and you haven’t taken anything from anyone,” they responded.

My brothers and sisters, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in,if you look with favor on the one wearing the fine clothes and say,“ Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor person,“ Stand over there,” or“ Sit here on the floor by my footstool,”haven’t you made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?

For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism.

So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal. She sent the letters to the elders and nobles who lived with Naboth in his city.In the letters, she wrote: Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people.Then seat two wicked men opposite him and have them testify against him, saying,“ You have cursed God and the king!” Then take him out and stone him to death.The men of his city, the elders and nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them, just as it was written in the letters she had sent them.They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth at the head of the people.The two wicked men came in and sat opposite him. Then the wicked men testified against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying,“ Naboth has cursed God and the king!” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.Then they sent word to Jezebel:“ Naboth has been stoned to death.”

They have become fat and sleek. They have also excelled in evil matters. They have not taken up cases, such as the case of the fatherless, so they might prosper, and they have not defended the rights of the needy.Should I not punish them for these things? This is the LORD’s declaration. Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?

Woe to those who dream up wickedness and prepare evil plans on their beds! At morning light they accomplish it because the power is in their hands.They covet fields and seize them; they also take houses. They deprive a man of his home, a person of his inheritance.Therefore, the LORD says: I am now planning a disaster against this nation; you cannot free your necks from it. Then you will not walk so proudly because it will be an evil time.

For there is no favoritism with God.

And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

Then I said,“ Now listen, leaders of Jacob, you rulers of the house of Israel. Aren’t you supposed to know what is just?You hate good and love evil. You tear off people’s skin and strip their flesh from their bones.You eat the flesh of my people after you strip their skin from them and break their bones. You chop them up like flesh for the cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.”Then they will cry out to the LORD, but he will not answer them. He will hide his face from them at that time because of the crimes they have committed.

“ Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them or I will cause you to cower before them.

We will certainly die and be like water poured out on the ground, which can’t be recovered. But God would not take away a life; he would devise plans so that the one banished from him does not remain banished.

Do not deny justice to a resident alien or fatherless child, and do not take a widow’s garment as security.

Instead, just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please people, but rather God, who examines our hearts.
