Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.”

So choose some wise men from each of your tribes. They must understand how to give good advice. The people must have respect for them. I will appoint those men to have authority over you.”

並要從百姓中揀選有才能的人，就是敬畏神、誠實無妄、恨不義之財的人，派他們作千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長、十夫長，管理百姓，

耶和華對摩西說：「你從以色列的長老中招聚七十個人，就是你所知道作百姓的長老和官長的，到我這裏來，領他們到會幕前，使他們和你一同站立。我要在那裏降臨，與你說話，也要把降於你身上的靈分賜他們，他們就和你同當這管百姓的重任，免得你獨自擔當。

十二使徒叫眾門徒來，對他們說：「我們撇下神的道去管理飯食，原是不合宜的。所以弟兄們，當從你們中間選出七個有好名聲、被聖靈充滿、智慧充足的人，我們就派他們管理這事。但我們要專心以祈禱、傳道為事。」大眾都喜悅這話，就揀選了司提反，乃是大有信心、聖靈充滿的人，又揀選腓利、伯羅哥羅、尼迦挪、提門、巴米拿，並進猶太教的安提阿人尼哥拉，叫他們站在使徒面前。使徒禱告了，就按手在他們頭上。

所以，主耶穌在我們中間始終出入的時候，就是從約翰施洗起，直到主離開我們被接上升的日子為止，必須從那常與我們作伴的人中立一位與我們同作耶穌復活的見證。」於是選舉兩個人，就是那叫做巴撒巴，又稱呼猶士都的約瑟，和馬提亞。
