But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself?

But I can’t handle your problems and troubles all by myself. I can’t settle your arguments.

How can I bear by myself the weight and burden of you and your strife?

But how can I bear your troubles, burdens, and disputes by myself?

How can I alone endure the burden and weight of you and your strife?

How can I alone bear your problems and your burdens and your complaints?

How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.

To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?

“ Now, O Lord my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around.And here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted!Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”

Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said,“ I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king.

And Moses said to the Lord,“ Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people?Did I give birth to them? Did I bring them into the world? Why did you tell me to carry them in my arms like a mother carries a nursing baby? How can I carry them to the land you swore to give their ancestors?Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying,‘ Give us meat to eat!’I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy!If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery!”

Moses continued,“ At that time I told you,‘ You are too great a burden for me to carry all by myself.

The next day, Moses took his seat to hear the people’s disputes against each other. They waited before him from morning till evening.When Moses’ father in law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked,“ What are you really accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?”Moses replied,“ Because the people come to me to get a ruling from God.When a dispute arises, they come to me, and I am the one who settles the case between the quarreling parties. I inform the people of God’s decrees and give them his instructions.”
