But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself?

But I can’t handle your problems and troubles all by myself. I can’t settle your arguments.

How can I bear by myself the weight and burden of you and your strife?

But you are such a heavy load to carry! How can I deal with all your problems and bickering?

But how can I bear your troubles, burdens, and disputes by myself?

How can I alone endure the burden and weight of you and your strife?

How can I alone bear your problems and your burdens and your complaints?

How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,

to the latter an odor from death to death, but to the former a fragrance from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?

Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in my father David’s place, even though I am only a young man and am inexperienced.Your servant stands among your chosen people; they are a great nation that is too numerous to count or number.So give your servant a discerning mind so he can make judicial decisions for your people and distinguish right from wrong. Otherwise no one is able to make judicial decisions for this great nation of yours.”

Then you spoke through a vision to your faithful followers and said:“ I have energized a warrior; I have raised up a young man from the people.

And Moses said to the LORD,“ Why have you afflicted your servant? Why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of this entire people on me?Did I conceive this entire people? Did I give birth to them, that you should say to me,‘ Carry them in your arms, as a foster father bears a nursing child,’ to the land which you swore to their fathers?From where shall I get meat to give to this entire people, for they cry to me,‘ Give us meat, that we may eat!’I am not able to bear this entire people alone, because it is too heavy for me!But if you are going to deal with me like this, then kill me immediately. If I have found favor in your sight then do not let me see my trouble.”

I also said to you at that time,“ I am no longer able to sustain you by myself.

On the next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning until evening.When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said,“ What is this that you are doing for the people? Why are you sitting by yourself, and all the people stand around you from morning until evening?”Moses said to his father-in-law,“ Because the people come to me to inquire of God.When they have a dispute, it comes to me and I decide between a man and his neighbor, and I make known the decrees of God and his laws.”
