「你們這些頑固不化、心和耳都未受割禮的人哪，你們總是抗拒聖靈！你們的祖先怎樣，你們也怎樣。有哪一位先知，你們的祖先不逼迫呢？他們殺了那些預言那義者要來的先知，現在你們又成為那義者的出賣者和凶手了。

到了收穫的季節，他就派了一個奴僕到那些農夫那裡去，好讓他們從葡萄園的果子中把當納的交給他。但那些農夫打了他，叫他空手回去。園主又派另一個奴僕去，可是他們把那個人也打了，並且侮辱他，叫他空手回去。於是，他又派了第三個人去，他們又把這個人打傷，趕了出去。

沒有聽從耶和華我們神的話，沒有遵行他藉著他的僕人眾先知在我們面前所立的律法。

耶和華的話語又臨到撒迦利亞，說：「萬軍之耶和華如此說：『你們要施行真理的審判，各人要以恩慈和憐憫對待自己的兄弟。不要欺壓寡婦、孤兒、寄居者和困苦人，各人不要在心裡向自己的兄弟謀劃惡事。』然而，他們不肯留心聽，竟扭轉頑梗的肩頭，充耳不聞；他們使自己的心硬如金剛石，不聽從律法，不聽從萬軍之耶和華藉著他的靈和先前的眾先知所發出的話語。因此，有極大的震怒從萬軍之耶和華而來。

當收果子的季節近了，主人就派了奴僕們到那些農夫那裡去收取他的果子。但那些農夫抓住他的奴僕，打了一個，殺了一個，還用石頭砸死一個。主人又派別的奴僕去，比先前的更多，那些農夫也照樣對待他們。後來他差派自己的兒子到他們那裡，說：『他們一定會尊重我的兒子。』「可是那些農夫看見他的兒子，就彼此說：『這是繼承人。來，我們把他殺了，占有他的繼業！』於是他們抓住他，把他扔出葡萄園外，殺了。那麼，葡萄園的主人回來的時候，會怎麼對待那些農夫呢？」

實際上，住在耶路撒冷的人和他們的首領們都不認識這一位，也不明白每逢安息日所誦讀的先知們的話，就把他定罪，從而應驗了這些話。

他們對先見說：「不要看異象了！」對先知說：「不要向我們預言真確的事，要向我們說柔滑的話，預言虛幻的事！你們要離開這道，轉離這路，不要在我們面前再提以色列的聖者了！」

「耶路撒冷啊，耶路撒冷！這城殺害先知們，又用石頭砸死被差到她這裡的人！我多次想聚集你的兒女，像母雞把自己的小雞聚集在翅膀下，可是你們不願意！

這些猶太人不但殺了主耶穌和先知們，也驅逐了我們，並且不討神的喜悅，又與所有的人作對，阻止我們向外邦人傳道使外邦人得救。這樣，他們常常積滿自己的罪孽，而神的震怒在最後臨到了他們身上！

耶和華宣告：『你們不要像你們的祖先！先前的眾先知呼喚他們，說：「萬軍之耶和華如此說：現在你們要回轉離開自己邪惡的道路和邪惡的行為！」他們卻不聽從，也不留心聽我的話。你們的祖先，他們在哪裡呢？那些先知，他們會永遠活著嗎？然而我吩咐我僕人眾先知的話語和律例，不都追上了你們的祖先嗎？於是他們回轉，說：萬軍之耶和華照著我們的道路和行為決意怎樣對待我們，他就怎樣對待了我們。』」
