So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.

So I prayed to the Lord God. I begged him. I made many appeals to him. I didn’t eat anything. I put on the rough clothing people wear when they’re sad. And I sat down in ashes.

Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.

Then, at the evening sacrifice, I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands spread out to the Lord my God

You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity.The nations will fear the name of the Lord, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered,

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
