in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.

In that year I learned from the Scriptures that Jerusalem would remain destroyed for 70 years. That was what the Lord had told Jeremiah the prophet.

並且我們有先知更確切的話語。你們如果留心這些話語，把它當做照耀在暗處的燈，一直到天光破曉、晨星在你們心中升起，你們就做得很好了。你們首先要知道這一點：經上的一切預言都不是出於人自己的解釋；因為預言從來不是藉著人的意思傳來的，而是人受聖靈的感動說出從神而來的話。

關於這救恩，那些預言你們要得著這恩典的先知，曾經尋求過，詳細查考過。他們查考了自己裡面基督之靈，當他預言有關基督的苦難和此後的榮耀時，究竟指明的是什麼時候、或什麼樣的情況。他們蒙了啟示，知道所服事的這一切，不是為自己，而是為你們。如今，這些事藉著從天上派來的聖靈，通過那些向你們傳福音的人，傳講給了你們；對於這些事，天使們也渴望能詳細察看。

並且你從年幼就知道了聖經，這聖經能使你有智慧，藉著在基督耶穌裡的信仰，以至於救恩。聖經都是神所默示的，對於教導、責備、規正、在義中的訓練都是有益處的，要使屬神的人完備，為一切美善的工作，裝備齊全。

神哪，列國進入了你的繼業，玷汙了你聖潔的殿，使耶路撒冷變為荒堆！他們把你僕人的屍體給了天空的飛鳥為食物，把你忠信者的肉體給了地上的野獸。

我但以理正在觀看這異象，想要領悟它，看哪，有一位樣貌像人的站在我面前！我又聽見在烏萊運河中間有人的聲音呼喊說：「加百列啊，你當使這人領悟這異象！」

荒涼的城邑破敗，家家關門閉戶，無人能進。街上有為酒哭喊的聲音；一切歡樂都已黯淡，地上的喜樂都已離去。城中只有廢墟殘留，城門被打得破碎不堪。

太監對腓利說：「請問，先知說的這話是關於誰呢？是關於自己，還是關於別人呢？」

我比我所有的教師更明達，因為我默想你的法度。我比長老們更有悟性，因為我謹守你的訓誡。

「當你們看見藉著先知但以理所說的『那帶來毀滅的褻瀆者』站在聖地的時候——讀者應當思考——

你的聖城變成了曠野，錫安變成了曠野，耶路撒冷變成了荒涼之地。

你要專心誦讀經文、鼓勵和教導人，直到我來。

你的法度就是我的喜樂，是我的謀士！

我就說：「主啊，這要到什麼時候呢？」他說：「直到城鎮廢棄，無人居住，房屋空無一人，土地廢棄荒涼的時候；那時，耶和華必把人遷到遠方，在這地上必有很多被遺棄之處。

「當你們看見『那帶來毀滅的褻瀆者』站在不該站的地方時——讀者應當思考——那時，在猶太的人應當逃到山裡；

求你舉步到那長久荒涼之地——在聖所中，仇敵已經做了一切惡事。你的敵人在你的會所中吼叫，設立了自己的標幟為記號；他們像是在樹林中揮斧頭的人；而現在，他們用斧子和錘子，把聖所的雕刻全都擊碎了。他們放火把你的聖所燒成平地，褻瀆了你名的住所。
