Why should you be like a man confused, like a mighty warrior who cannot save? Yet you, O Lord, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; do not leave us.”

O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy.

And listen to the plea of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen in heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.“ If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath and comes and swears his oath before your altar in this house,then hear in heaven and act and judge your servants, condemning the guilty by bringing his conduct on his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.“ When your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and if they turn again to you and acknowledge your name and pray and plead with you in this house,then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them again to the land that you gave to their fathers.“ When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and acknowledge your name and turn from their sin, when you afflict them,then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance.“ If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besieges them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart and stretching out his hands toward this house,then hear in heaven your dwelling place and forgive and act and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways( for you, you only, know the hearts of all the children of mankind),

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations?Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?

“ Therefore thus says the Lord God: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name.

We do not see our signs; there is no longer any prophet, and there is none among us who knows how long.How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the fold of your garment and destroy them!

We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you.Do not spurn us, for your name’s sake; do not dishonor your glorious throne; remember and do not break your covenant with us.

But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.

Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground.Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!

then hear from heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their pleas, and maintain their cause and forgive your people who have sinned against you.

For behold, I begin to work disaster at the city that is called by my name, and shall you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the Lord of hosts.’

“ Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came.

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!Why should the nations say,“ Where is their God?”

And listen to the pleas of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen from heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.

For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.O Lord, why do you make us wander from your ways and harden our heart, so that we fear you not? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage.Your holy people held possession for a little while; our adversaries have trampled down your sanctuary.We have become like those over whom you have never ruled, like those who are not called by your name.

You will arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come.For your servants hold her stones dear and have pity on her dust.Nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory.For the Lord builds up Zion; he appears in his glory;

Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low.Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake!Why should the nations say,“ Where is their God?” Let the avenging of the outpoured blood of your servants be known among the nations before our eyes!

But I withheld my hand and acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.

Be not so terribly angry, O Lord, and remember not iniquity forever. Behold, please look, we are all your people.Your holy cities have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, has been burned by fire, and all our pleasant places have become ruins.Will you restrain yourself at these things, O Lord? Will you keep silent, and afflict us so terribly?

But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.
