The warnings you gave us and our rulers have come true. You have brought great trouble on us. Nothing like what has been done to Jerusalem has ever happened anywhere else on earth.

He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing upon us a great calamity. For under the whole heaven there has not been done anything like what has been done against Jerusalem.

The Lord has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word, which he decreed long ago. He has overthrown you without pity, he has let the enemy gloat over you, he has exalted the horn of your foes.

What can I say for you? With what can I compare you, Daughter Jerusalem? To what can I liken you, that I may comfort you, Virgin Daughter Zion? Your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you?

For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now— and never to be equaled again.

Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. Even though the Lord has not sent them, they say,“ The Lord declares,” and expect him to fulfill their words.

Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.

Today they lie deserted and in ruinsbecause of the evil they have done. They aroused my anger by burning incense to and worshiping other gods that neither they nor you nor your ancestors ever knew.Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said,‘ Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!’But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out; it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins they are today.

“ You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins.”

“ How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.

The punishment of my people is greater than that of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment without a hand turned to help her.

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed

So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now— and never to be equaled again.

For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.

a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as never was in ancient times nor ever will be in ages to come.
