「我們的上帝啊，既然如此，現在我們還有甚麼話可說呢？因為我們離棄了你的誡命，就是你藉你僕人眾先知所吩咐的，說：『你們要去得為業之地是污穢之地，因列邦民族的污穢和可憎的事，叫這地從這邊到那邊都充滿了污穢。

古時候，上帝藉着眾先知多次多方向列祖說話，

耶和華藉眾先知、先見勸戒以色列和猶大說：「當離開你們的惡行，謹守我的誡命律例，遵行我吩咐你們祖先、藉我僕人眾先知所傳給你們的一切律法。」他們卻不聽從，竟硬着頸項，像他們祖先一樣，不信服耶和華－他們的上帝。他們厭棄他的律例，和他與他們列祖所立的約，以及他勸戒他們的話，去隨從虛無的神明，自己成為虛妄，效法周圍的列國，就是耶和華囑咐他們不可效法的。

你降臨在西奈山，從天上與他們說話，賜給他們正直的典章、真實的律法、美好的律例與誡命，又使他們知道你的聖安息日，並藉你僕人摩西傳給他們誡命、律例、律法。你從天上賜下糧食給他們充飢，使水從磐石流出給他們解渴。你吩咐他們進去，得你起誓應許要賜給他們的地。「『但我們的祖先行事狂傲，硬着頸項不聽從你的誡命。他們不肯順從，也不記念你在他們中間所行的奇事，竟硬着頸項，居心悖逆，自立領袖，要回埃及他們為奴之地。但你是樂意饒恕人，有恩惠，有憐憫，不輕易發怒，有豐盛慈愛的上帝，並沒有丟棄他們。
