Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.

And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten crowns, and on his heads were blasphemous names.

‘ These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth.

The first was like a lion but had the wings of an eagle. I kept looking until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the ground and set up on two feet like a man; a human mind also was given to it.And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and they said this to it:‘ Arise, devour much meat!’After this I kept looking, and behold, another one, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird; the beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed, and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.While I was thinking about the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the previous horns were plucked out before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like human eyes, and a mouth uttering great boasts.

Now I raised my eyes again and looked, and behold, four chariots were going out from between the two mountains; and the mountains were bronze mountains.With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses,with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot strong spotted horses.So I responded and said to the angel who was speaking with me,“ What are these, my lord?”The angel replied to me,“ These are the four spirits of heaven, going out after taking their stand before the Lord of all the earth,with one of which the black horses are going out to the north country; and the white ones are to go out after them, while the spotted ones are to go out to the south country.”When the strong ones went out, they were eager to go to patrol the earth. And He said,“ Go, patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth.Then He called out to me and spoke to me, saying,“ See, those who are going to the land of the north have appeased My wrath in the land of the north.”

When she brought up one of her cubs, He became a young lion, And he learned to tear his prey; He devoured people.Then nations heard about him; He was caught in their trap, And they brought him with hooks To the land of Egypt.When she saw, as she waited, That her hope was lost, She took another of her cubs And made him a young lion.And he walked about among the lions, He became a young lion; He learned to tear his prey; He devoured people.He destroyed their palaces And laid waste their cities; And the land and its fullness were appalled Because of the sound of his roaring.Then nations set against him On every side from their provinces, And they spread their net over him; He was caught in their trap.

The head of that statue was made of fine gold, its chest and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze,its legs of iron, and its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.

You are resplendent, More majestic than the mountains of prey.

You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the honor;and wherever the sons of mankind live, or the animals of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has handed them over to you and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.And after you another kingdom will arise inferior to you, then another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth.Then there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron; just as iron smashes and crushes everything, so, like iron that crushes, it will smash and crush all these things.
