可是长老中有一位对我说：“不要哭了！看哪，那出于犹大支派的狮子、大卫的根已经得胜，可以打开那书卷和它的七个封印。”

他指示我，对我说：“但以理啊，现在我出来，为要使你明达、有悟性！

那碰我的对我说：“蒙爱的但以理啊！你当领悟我向你说的话语，站起来，因为我现在受派遣到你这里。”他与我说这话的时候，我就战战兢兢地站了起来。他又对我说：“但以理啊！你不要害怕，因为自从你用心领悟这事、在你的神面前谦卑的第一天起，你的祷告就蒙垂听了；我是因你的祷告而来的。

然后我听见一位圣者在说话，又有一位圣者问那说话的：“这异象，就是有关常献的祭、带来荒凉的罪过、圣所和天军被践踏之事，要到什么时候呢？”他就回答我：“要经过两千三百个晚上和早晨，那时圣所就必重归为圣。”我但以理正在观看这异象，想要领悟它，看哪，有一位样貌像人的站在我面前！我又听见在乌莱运河中间有人的声音呼喊说：“加百列啊，你当使这人领悟这异象！”

我举目观看，看哪，有一个人身穿细麻衣，腰间束着俄斐黄金的带子！他的身体如黄水晶，面貌如闪电的样子，眼睛如燃烧的火把，膀臂和脚如磨亮闪耀的铜；他说话的声音如众人发出的声音。

那时，我但以理正在观看，看哪，另有两位站着，一位在河岸这边，一位在河岸那边！其中一位对那身穿细麻衣、在河水之上的人说：“这些奇妙之事的结局要到什么时候呢？”
