約拿遵耶和華命、往尼尼微、夫尼尼微邑甚廣、城之四周、三日始徧、約拿入城、歷一日之程、呼曰、尼尼微邑、不過四十日、必傾圮矣。尼尼微人信上帝、使眾自尊逮卑、禁食衣麻、尼尼微王聞言下位、解衣衣麻、坐於塗炭。王與諸侯出諭、遍尼尼微邑曰、人與六畜牛羊、俱勿食糧、飲水、俱必衣麻、懇籲上帝、眾當去惡、勿虐人民、庶幾上帝或回厥志、而息其怒、使我不亡。

掃羅孫米非波設亦至迓王、彼自王出亡及王安歸、不治其足、不飾其鬚、不澣其衣。

播鼗鼓琴、蕭管悅耳、

亞哈聞言、則裂其衣、衣麻禁食、或寢或行、卑以自牧。

寢於象牙之榻、卧於棲息之床、羔則取之於群、犢則執之於牢、供其饜飫、彈琴作歌、製樂器、一如大闢、以最巨之盂、盛酒醴、以至貴之油、膏肌膚、於約瑟之難、毫不矜憫、其禍必不遠矣。
