Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep.

那夜王睡不着覺，就吩咐人取歷史來，念給他聽。

尼布甲尼撒在位第二年，他做了夢，心裏煩亂，不能睡覺。

你叫我不能閉眼；我煩亂不安，甚至不能說話。

所以大衛為這孩子懇求神，而且禁食，進入內室，終夜躺在地上。他家中的老臣來到他旁邊，要把他從地上扶起來，他卻不肯起來，也不同他們吃飯。

我又為自己積蓄金銀和君王的財寶，並各省的財寶；又得唱歌的男女和世人所喜愛的物，並許多的妃嬪。

我們把琴掛在那裏的柳樹上；

彈琴、作樂、吹笛、吹號的聲音，在你中間決不能再聽見；各行手藝人在你中間決不能再遇見；推磨的聲音在你中間決不能再聽見；

擊鼓之樂止息；宴樂人的聲音完畢，彈琴之樂也止息了。人必不得飲酒唱歌；喝濃酒的，必以為苦。

約拿便照耶和華的話起來，往尼尼微去。這尼尼微是極大的城，有三日的路程。約拿進城走了一日，宣告說：「再等四十日，尼尼微必傾覆了！」尼尼微人信服神，便宣告禁食，從最大的到至小的都穿麻衣。這信息傳到尼尼微王的耳中，他就下了寶座，脫下朝服，披上麻布，坐在灰中。他又使人遍告尼尼微通城，說：「王和大臣有令，人不可嘗甚麼，牲畜、牛羊不可吃草，也不可喝水。人與牲畜都當披上麻布；人要切切求告神。各人回頭離開所行的惡道，丟棄手中的強暴。或者神轉意後悔，不發烈怒，使我們不致滅亡，也未可知。」

掃羅的孫子米非波設也下去迎接王。他自從王去的日子，直到王平平安安地回來，沒有修腳，沒有剃鬍鬚，也沒有洗衣服。

他們隨着琴鼓歌唱，又因簫聲歡喜。

亞哈聽見這話，就撕裂衣服，禁食，身穿麻布，睡臥也穿着麻布，並且緩緩而行。

你們躺臥在象牙牀上，舒身在榻上，吃羣中的羊羔，棚裏的牛犢；彈琴鼓瑟唱消閑的歌曲，為自己製造樂器，如同大衛所造的；以大碗喝酒，用上等的油抹身，卻不為約瑟的苦難擔憂。
