王遂命人以但以理攜至、投之獅穴、告但以理曰、爾所恆事之天主、必必或作願其救爾、

So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel,“ May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”

So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him,“ May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you.”

The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD, their refuge in a time of distress.The LORD helps and delivers them; he will deliver them from the wicked and will save them because they take refuge in him.

He will rescue you from six calamities; no harm will touch you in seven.

Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name.When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor.I will satisfy him with a long life and show him my salvation.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and the rivers will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, and the flame will not burn you.

Nebuchadnezzar exclaimed,“ Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel and rescued his servants who trusted in him. They violated the king’s command and risked their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.

As for me, even though I am the anointed king, I have little power today. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!”

If the God we serve exists, then he can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and he can rescue us from the power of you, the king.

When he reached the den, he cried out in anguish to Daniel.“ Daniel, servant of the living God,” the king said,“ has your God, whom you continually serve, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humanity.It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in nobles.

The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the LORD is protected.

If then I did anything wrong and am deserving of death, I am not trying to escape death; but if there is nothing to what these men accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

Now if you’re ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don’t worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire— and who is the god who can rescue you from my power?”

After two years had passed, Porcius Festus succeeded Felix, and because Felix wanted to do the Jews a favor, he left Paul in prison.

Then he said,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they kept shouting all the more,“ Crucify him!”When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves!”All the people answered,“ His blood be on us and on our children!”Then he released Barabbas to them and, after having Jesus flogged, handed him over to be crucified.

King Zedekiah said,“ Here he is; he’s in your hands since the king can’t do anything against you.”

At once she hurried to the king and said,“ I want you to give me John the Baptist’s head on a platter immediately.”Although the king was deeply distressed, because of his oaths and the guests he did not want to refuse her.The king immediately sent for an executioner and commanded him to bring John’s head. So he went and beheaded him in prison,brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother.

But Festus, wanting to do the Jews a favor, replied to Paul,“ Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem to be tried before me there on these charges?”

For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval.

Prompted by her mother, she answered,“ Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.”Although the king regretted it, he commanded that it be granted because of his oaths and his guests.So he sent orders and had John beheaded in the prison.

Pilate said to them,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted all the more,“ Crucify him!”Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

All the administrators of the kingdom— the prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors— have agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an edict that, for thirty days, anyone who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den.

From that moment Pilate kept trying to release him. But the Jews shouted,“ If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Anyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar!”When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus outside. He sat down on the judge’s seat in a place called the Stone Pavement( but in Aramaic, Gabbatha).It was the preparation day for the Passover, and it was about noon. Then he told the Jews,“ Here is your king!”They shouted,“ Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them,“ Should I crucify your king?”“ We have no king but Caesar!” the chief priests answered.Then he handed him over to be crucified. Then they took Jesus away.

As for me, here I am in your hands; do to me what you think is good and right.

For last night an angel of the God I belong to and serve stood by meand said,‘ Don’t be afraid, Paul. It is necessary for you to appear before Caesar. And indeed, God has graciously given you all those who are sailing with you.’
