王遂命人以但以理攜至、投之獅穴、告但以理曰、爾所恆事之天主、必必或作願其救爾、

So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel,“ May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”

But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah: He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them: He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them, Because they have taken refuge in him.

He will deliver thee in six troubles; Yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honor him.With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Nebuchadnezzar spake and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me: Jehovah reward the evil- doer according to his wickedness.

If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king.

And when he came near unto the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

It is better to take refuge in Jehovah Than to put confidence in man.It is better to take refuge in Jehovah Than to put confidence in princes.

The fear of man bringeth a snare; But whoso putteth his trust in Jehovah shall be safe.

If then I am a wrong- doer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die; but if none of those things is true whereof these accuse me, no man can give me up unto them. I appeal unto Cæsar.

Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made, well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?

But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

And he said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, Let him be crucified.So when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; see ye to it.And all the people answered and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.Then released he unto them Barabbas; but Jesus he scourged and delivered to be crucified.

And Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do anything against you.

But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same:

And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.And the king was grieved; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat with him, he commanded it to be given;and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

And Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, Crucify him.And Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released unto them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counsellors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong interdict, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Cæsar’s friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment- seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.Now it was the Preparation of the passover: it was about the sixth hour. And he saith unto the Jews, Behold, your King!They therefore cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.Then therefore he delivered him unto them to be crucified.

But as for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as is good and right in your eyes.

For there stood by me this night an angel of the God whose I am, whom also I serve,saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Cæsar: and lo, God hath granted thee all them that sail with thee.
