When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

犹太人回答他：“我们有律法，按照律法，他是该死的，因为他自以为是上帝的儿子。”彼拉多听见这话，越发害怕，又进了总督府，对耶稣说：“你是哪里来的？”耶稣却不回答。于是彼拉多对他说：“你不对我说话吗？难道你不知道我有权柄释放你，也有权柄把你钉十字架吗？”耶稣回答他：“若不是从上头赐给你的，你就毫无权柄办我，所以，把我交给你的那人罪更重了。”从此，彼拉多想要释放耶稣，无奈犹太人喊着说：“你若释放这个人，你就不是凯撒的忠臣。凡自立为王的就是背叛凯撒。”

当时，尼布甲尼撒大发烈怒，命令把沙得拉、米煞、亚伯尼歌带过来；他们就把这几个人带到王面前。

众人聚集的时候，彼拉多就对他们说：“你们要我释放哪一个给你们？是巴拉巴呢？是称为基督的耶稣呢？”总督原知道他们是因为嫉妒才把他解了来。正坐堂的时候，他的夫人打发人来说：“这义人的事，你一点不可管，因为我今天在梦中因他受了许多的苦。”祭司长和长老挑唆众人，要求释放巴拉巴，除掉耶稣。总督回答他们说：“这两个人，你们要我释放哪一个给你们呢？”他们说：“巴拉巴。”彼拉多说：“这样，那称为基督的耶稣我怎么办他呢？”他们都说：“把他钉十字架！”总督说：“为什么？他做了什么恶事呢？”他们更加喊着说：“把他钉十字架！”彼拉多见说也无济于事，反要生乱，就拿水在众人面前洗手，说：“流这人的血，罪不在我，你们承当吧。”

彼拉多传齐了众祭司长、官长和百姓，对他们说：“你们解这人到我这里，说他是煽惑百姓的。看哪，我也曾在你们面前审问他，并没有查出这人犯过你们控告他的任何罪；就是希律也是如此，所以把他送回来。可见他没有做什么该死的事。所以，我要责打他，把他释放。”
