When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

The Jews answered him,“ We have a law, and by that law He ought to die, because He made Himself out to be the Son of God!”Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid;and he entered the Praetorium again and* said to Jesus,“ Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.So Pilate* said to Him,“ Are you not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?”Jesus answered him,“ You would have no authority over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason the one who handed Me over to you has the greater sin.”As a result of this, Pilate made efforts to release Him; but the Jews shouted, saying,“ If you release this Man, you are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar!”

Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and anger gave orders to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego; then these men were brought before the king.

So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them,“ Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”For he knew that it was because of envy that they had handed Him over.And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying,“ See that you have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.”But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to put Jesus to death.And the governor said to them,“ Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said,“ Barabbas.”Pilate* said to them,“ Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all* said,“ Crucify Him!”But he said,“ Why, what evil has He done?” Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying,“ Crucify Him!”Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying,“ I am innocent of this Man’s blood; you yourselves shall see.”

Now Pilate summoned to himself the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,and he said to them,“ You brought this man to me on the ground that he is inciting the people to revolt; and behold, after examining Him before you, I have found no basis at all in the case of this man for the charges which you are bringing against Him.No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”[ Now he was obligated to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]But they cried out all together, saying,“ Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas!”( He was one who had been thrown into prison for a revolt that took place in the city, and for murder.)But Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again,but they kept on crying out, saying,“ Crucify, crucify Him!”
