When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

猶太人回答他說：『我們有律法，按那律法、他應該死，因為他拿自己當做上帝的兒子。』彼拉多一聽見這話，便越發害怕；就再進皇省長府內，問耶穌說：『你是哪兒來的？』耶穌沒有回答他。於是彼拉多對他說：『你對我、也不說話麼？你不知道我有權柄釋放你，也有權柄釘你十字架麼？』耶穌回答說：『若不是從上頭給了你，你就毫無權柄辦我；故此那把我送交給你的、犯了更大的罪。』從此彼拉多就想法子要釋放耶穌；無奈猶太人直嚷着說：『你若釋放這個人，就不是「該撒的忠臣」了；凡以自己為王的，就是頂撞着該撒。』

那時尼布甲尼撒大發烈怒、吩咐人把沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌帶來；人就把那些人帶到了王面前。

眾人聚集的時候，彼拉多就對他們說：『你們要我釋放哪一個給你們？是巴拉巴耶穌呢？還是這所謂基督的耶穌呢？』他原知道他們是因了嫉妒才把耶穌送交上來的。彼拉多正坐在臺上審判的時候，他的夫人差遣人來見他說：『這無罪的人的事你一點也不可管；因為為了他、我今天在夢中受了許多苦。』祭司長和長老挑唆羣眾、求要巴拉巴而殺滅耶穌。總督應時問他們說：『這兩人中，你們要我釋放哪一個給你們？』他們說：『巴拉巴。』彼拉多對他們說：『那麼這所謂基督的耶穌、我要怎麼辦呢？』眾人說：『給釘十字架！』彼拉多說：『他作了甚麼惡事呢？』他們卻極力喊着說：『給釘十字架！』彼拉多見無濟於事，反會生亂，就拿水當羣眾面前洗手說：『這人流血而死，我全無辜；你們自理吧。』

彼拉多就叫齊了祭司長、議員和民眾，對他們說：『你們把這個人解到我這裏來，說他是叫人民轉離正軌的。你看，我已經在你們面前審問了，查不出這人有你們所控告他的罪狀。就是希律也查不出；因為他把他送回我們這裏來了。你看，甚麼該死的事、他都沒有作過呀。故此我要責打他，給釋放了。』
