When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament.

那些猶太人回答：「我們有律法，按照這律法，他是應該死的，因為他把自己當做神的兒子。」彼拉多一聽這話，就更加懼怕了，又進了總督府，問耶穌：「你到底是從哪裡來的？」耶穌卻沒有回答他。彼拉多就說：「你不與我說話嗎？難道你不知道我有權釋放你，也有權把你釘上十字架嗎？」耶穌回答：「如果權柄不是從上面賜給你的，你就對我沒有任何權柄。所以，把我交給你的人有更大的罪。」由此，彼拉多就想要釋放耶穌。可是猶太人喊叫說：「你如果釋放這個人，就不是凱撒的朋友了。所有把自己當做王的，就是反對凱撒的！」

尼布甲尼撒就勃然大怒，下令把沙德拉克、米沙克、亞伯尼哥帶來；於是這些人被帶到王面前。

當民眾聚集的時候，彼拉多問他們：「你們要我給你們釋放哪一個呢？是巴拉巴，還是那稱為基督的耶穌？」其實彼拉多知道他們是出於嫉妒才把耶穌交給他的。彼拉多正坐在審判席上，他的妻子派人到他那裡說：「這義人的事，你什麼也不要管。要知道，我今天因他的緣故，在夢中受了很多苦。」祭司長們和長老們挑唆眾人，叫他們要巴拉巴，而除滅耶穌。總督問他們，說：「這兩個人中，你們要我給你們釋放哪一個呢？」他們回答說：「巴拉巴！」彼拉多對他們說：「那麼，我該怎麼處理這稱為基督的耶穌呢？」他們都說：「把他釘上十字架！」彼拉多說：「他到底做了什麼惡事呢？」但他們卻越發喊叫說：「把他釘上十字架！」彼拉多知道自己無濟於事，反而騷亂倒要發生，就拿水在眾人面前洗手，說：「流這人的血，罪不在我，你們自己看著辦吧！」

彼拉多召集了祭司長們、首領們和民眾，對他們說：「你們把這個人帶到我這裡來，說他是誤導民眾造反的。看，我已經當著你們的面審問了他，在他身上卻一點也查不出你們所控告的罪。其實希律也查不出來，所以把他送回給我們。看，他沒有做過什麼該死的事。因此，懲罰了以後，我要釋放他。」
