When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

When the king heard this, he was very upset. He didn’t want Daniel to be harmed in any way. Until sunset, he did everything he could to save him.

Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he labored till the sun went down to rescue him.

Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament.

As soon as the king heard this, he was very displeased; he set his mind on rescuing Daniel and made every effort until sundown to deliver him.

犹太人回答：“我们有律法，根据那律法，他是该死的，因为他自命为神的儿子。”彼拉多听见这话，就更加害怕，又进了官邸，问耶稣：“你究竟是从哪里来的？”耶稣却不回答他。彼拉多对他说：“你不对我说话吗？你不知道我有权释放你，也有权把你钉十字架吗？”耶稣说：“如果不是从天上给你权柄，你就无权办我；因此，把我交给你的那人，罪更重了。”从那时起，彼拉多想释放耶稣；可是犹太人却喊叫说：“如果你释放这个人，就不是凯撒的忠臣了。凡是自命为王的，就是与凯撒为敌。”

当时尼布甲尼撒勃然大怒，吩咐人把沙得拉、米煞和亚伯尼歌带来；他们就被带到王面前。

群众聚集的时候，彼拉多问他们：“你们要我给你们释放谁？耶数．巴拉巴或是称为基督的耶稣呢？”他知道他们是因为嫉妒才把耶稣交了来。彼拉多坐在审判台上的时候，他的夫人派人来说：“你不要干涉这个义人的事，因为昨夜我在梦中因他受了很多的苦。”祭司长和长老怂恿群众，叫他们去要求释放巴拉巴，除掉耶稣。总督问他们：“这两个人，你们要我给你们释放哪一个？”他们说：“巴拉巴！”彼拉多对他们说：“那么，我怎样处置那称为基督的耶稣呢？”他们齐声说：“把他钉十字架！”彼拉多说：“为什么呢？他作了什么恶事呢？”众人更加大声喊叫：“把他钉十字架！”彼拉多见无济于事，反会引起骚动，就拿水在群众面前洗手，说：“流这人的血，与我无关，你们自己负责吧。”

彼拉多召集了祭司长、官长和民众，对他们说：“你们把这人押到我这里来，说他煽惑群众，我已经在你们面前审讯过，在他身上一点也找不到你们控告他的罪状，连希律也找不到，又把他送回我这里，可见他没有作过该死的事。我要责打他，然后把他释放。”（有些抄本有第17节：“每逢节期，他必须照例给他们释放一个囚犯。”也有些抄本把这句放在第19节后）
