When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

犹太人回答说：“我们有律法，按照那律法，祂应当被处死，因为祂自称是上帝的儿子。”彼拉多听了这话，更加害怕，连忙将耶稣带回总督府，问祂：“你到底是从哪里来的？”但耶稣没有回答。彼拉多说：“你不回答我吗？难道你不知道我有权释放你，也有权把你钉在十字架上吗？”耶稣回答说：“除非从上面赐下权柄给你，否则你无权处置我。因此，把我交给你的那人罪更大。”从那时起，彼拉多想要释放耶稣，可是犹太人却一直喊叫：“如果你释放这个人，你就不是凯撒的忠臣。凡自以为王的，就是背叛凯撒。”

尼布甲尼撒王勃然大怒，下令将沙得拉、米煞、亚伯尼歌带来。于是他们被带到王面前。

百姓聚在一起的时候，彼拉多就问他们：“你们要我给你们释放谁？巴拉巴还是被称为基督的耶稣？”因为彼拉多知道他们把耶稣抓来是因为嫉妒。彼拉多正坐堂断案时，他夫人派人来对他说：“你不要插手这个义人的事！我今天在梦中因为这个人受了许多苦。”祭司长和长老却怂恿百姓要求释放巴拉巴，处死耶稣。总督再次问百姓：“这两个人，你们要我释放哪一个？”他们说：“巴拉巴！”彼拉多问：“那么，我怎样处置那个被称为基督的耶稣呢？”他们齐声说：“把祂钉在十字架上！”彼拉多问：“为什么？祂犯了什么罪？”他们却更大声地喊叫：“把祂钉在十字架上！”彼拉多见再说也无济于事，反而会引起骚乱，于是拿了一盆水来，在众人面前洗手，说：“流这义人的血，罪不在我，你们自己负责。”

彼拉多召来祭司长、官长和百姓，对他们说：“你们带这个人来，指控祂煽动百姓造反，我当着你们的面审问了祂，却查不出祂有任何你们指控祂的罪。希律也查不出祂有什么罪，所以把祂送回来了。可见，这人并没有犯什么该死的罪。因此，我要惩戒祂，然后释放祂。”
