這話在王的口中還沒有說完，就有聲音從天上傳下來，說：“尼布甲尼撒王啊！有話對你說：你的王權被褫奪了。

惡人的歡呼並不長久，不敬虔者的快樂，不過是暫時的嗎？

他們還沒有因所願的滿足，食物仍在他們口中的時候，神的怒氣就向他們發作，殺了他們中間最肥壯的人，擊倒了以色列的年輕人。

於是王所有的智慧人都進來，卻不能讀那文字，也不能把意思向王說明。

因此，有手從神那裡伸出來，寫了這文字。“所寫的文字是：‘彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，烏法珥新。’這文字的意思是這樣：‘彌尼’就是神已數算了你國度的年日，使國終止；‘提客勒’就是你被稱在天平上，顯出你的缺欠；‘毘勒斯’（“毘勒斯”即“烏法珥新”的單數式）就是你的國要分裂，歸給瑪代人和波斯人。”

我又看見死了的人，無論大小，都站在寶座前。案卷都展開了，還有另一卷，就是生命冊，也展開了。死了的人都憑著這些案卷所記載的，照著他們所行的受審判。於是海把其中的死人交出來，死亡和陰間也把其中的死人交出來，他們都照著各人所行的受審判。死亡和陰間也被拋在火湖裡。這火湖就是第二次的死。凡是名字沒有記在生命冊上的，他就被拋在火湖裡。

現在智慧人和用法術的都被帶到我面前了，我要他們讀這文字，把文字的意思向我說明，可是他們都不能解釋這文字的意思。

人屢次受責備，仍然硬著頸項，他必突然毀滅，無法挽救。

塗抹了那寫在規條上反對我們、與我們為敵的字句，並且把這字句從我們中間拿去，釘在十字架上。

這話立刻就應驗在尼布甲尼撒身上；他被趕逐，離開人群，像牛一樣吃草，身體被天露滴濕，直到他的頭髮長得像鷹毛，指甲像鳥爪。

因為你們自己清楚知道，主的日子來到，就像夜間的賊來到一樣。人正在說平安穩妥的時候，毀滅性的災禍就突然臨到他們，好像生產的痛苦臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂啊，你擁有許多好東西，足夠多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！’神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’
