惟驕其志、逆天之主、命取厥殿之器、王公后妃、用之飲酒、譽揚金銀銅鐵木石所造之上帝、彼不見不聞、不識不知、至於賜爾呼吸、整爾步履之上帝、爾反不頌美之、

竟向天上之主自高、使人將其殿之器皿、取至爾前、爾與爾大臣及妃嬪、以之飲酒、讚美金銀銅鐵木石所造諸神、彼不見不聞不知、惟掌爾生氣生氣或作呼吸及爾命運爾命運原文作爾諸道塗之天主、爾反不頌揚之、

Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways.

You have taken your stand against the Lord of heaven. You had your servants bring cups from his temple to you. You and your nobles drank wine from them. So did your wives and concubines. You praised your gods. The statues of those gods are made out of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood or stone. They can’t see or hear or understand anything. But you didn’t honor God. He holds in his hand your very life and everything you do.

but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored.

For you have proudly defied the Lord of heaven and have had these cups from his Temple brought before you. You and your nobles and your wives and concubines have been drinking wine from them while praising gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone— gods that neither see nor hear nor know anything at all. But you have not honored the God who gives you the breath of life and controls your destiny!

Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of the heavens. The vessels from his house were brought to you, and as you and your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them, you praised the gods made of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or understand. But you have not glorified the God who holds your life-breath in his hand and who controls the whole course of your life.

but you have risen up against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have been drinking wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor understand. But the God in whose hand are your life breath and all your ways, you have not glorified.

In whose hand[ is] the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

O LORD, I know that the way of man[ is] not in himself:[ it is] not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted[ thy] voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high?[ even] against the Holy One of Israel.

Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works[ are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

For the day of the LORD of hosts[ shall be] upon every[ one that is] proud and lofty, and upon every[ one that is] lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

Man’s goings[ are] of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

Their idols[ are] silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.They that make them are like unto them;[ so is] every one that trusteth in them.

What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it[ is] laid over with gold and silver, and[ there is] no breath at all in the midst of it.

Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory[ of this], and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to[ thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall,[ even] thou, and Judah with thee?

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things[ are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

And have cast their gods into the fire: for they[ were] no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified[ him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted[ with] all my ways.

And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty[ and] two months.And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself.

And the LORD God formed man[ of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

If he set his heart upon man,[ if] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed[ be] Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

The idols of the heathen[ are] silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there[ any] breath in their mouths.

Behold, his soul[ which] is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

The heaven,[ even] the heavens,[ are] the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance,[ and] hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea,[ one] shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which[ was] in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which[ was] at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon[ was] fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon[ was] fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands[ were] cut off upon the threshold; only[ the stump of] Dagon was left to him.Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods,[ even] Ashdod and the coasts thereof.And when the men of Ashdod saw that[ it was] so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about[ thither].And it was[ so], that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart[ is] lifted up, and thou hast said, I[ am] a God, I sit[ in] the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou[ art] a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol[ is] nothing in the world, and that[ there is] none other God but one.

Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

By thy great wisdom[ and] by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:

Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
