Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes.

No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.All the wood in Lebanon’s forests and all Lebanon’s animals would not be enough to make a burnt offering worthy of our God.The nations of the world are worth nothing to him. In his eyes they count for less than nothing— mere emptiness and froth.

“ I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.

The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.

“ From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done.”

Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice?And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Well then, you might say,“ Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?”No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it,“ Why have you made me like this?”

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer:“ O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!

But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!”

For,“ Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

“ What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying,‘ Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim,‘ How clumsy can you be?’How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father,‘ Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother,‘ Why did you make me this way?’”This is what the Lord says— the Holy One of Israel and your Creator:“ Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands?

If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath,all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust.

In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right.

Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him.For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes.But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.

If he snatches someone in death, who can stop him? Who dares to ask,‘ What are you doing?’And God does not restrain his anger. Even the monsters of the sea are crushed beneath his feet.

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath:“ It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided.I will break the Assyrians when they are in Israel; I will trample them on my mountains. My people will no longer be their slaves nor bow down under their heavy loads.I have a plan for the whole earth, a hand of judgment upon all the nations.The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken— who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?”

Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.I will call a swift bird of prey from the east— a leader from a distant land to come and do my bidding. I have said what I would do, and I will do it.

What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is?

So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn’t hold anything back.“ It is the Lord’s will,” Eli replied.“ Let him do what he thinks best.”

But once he has made his decision, who can change his mind? Whatever he wants to do, he does.

“ Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?”

For God is so wise and so mighty. Who has ever challenged him successfully?

No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord.

But if he chooses to remain quiet, who can criticize him? When he hides his face, no one can find him, whether an individual or a nation.

And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?”

God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them.He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing.They hardly get started, barely taking root, when he blows on them and they wither. The wind carries them off like chaff.

Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his?All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty.Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud.Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.

From his throne he observes all who live on the earth.

He doesn’t care how great a person may be, and he pays no more attention to the rich than to the poor. He made them all.In a moment they die. In the middle of the night they pass away; the mighty are removed without human hand.“ For God watches how people live; he sees everything they do.No darkness is thick enough to hide the wicked from his eyes.We don’t set the time when we will come before God in judgment.He brings the mighty to ruin without asking anyone, and he sets up others in their place.

Listen to this, all you people! Pay attention, everyone in the world!
