Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.”

So, Your Majesty, I hope you will accept my advice. Stop being sinful. Do what is right. Give up your evil practices. Show kindness to those who are being treated badly. Then perhaps things will continue to go well with you.”

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

“‘ King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.’

Therefore, may my advice seem good to you my king. Separate yourself from your sins by doing what is right, and from your injustices by showing mercy to the needy. Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.”

Seek the LORD while he makes himself available; call to him while he is nearby!The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle and sinful people their plans. They should return to the LORD, and he will show mercy to them, and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.

Who knows? Perhaps God might be willing to change his mind and relent and turn from his fierce anger so that we might not die.”

Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that he may perhaps forgive you for the intent of your heart.

But give from your heart to those in need, and then everything will be clean for you.

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and make your hearts pure, you double- minded.Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter into mourning and your joy into despair.Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

“ So now Pharaoh should look for a wise and discerning man and give him authority over all the land of Egypt.Pharaoh should do this– he should appoint officials throughout the land to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.They should gather all the excess food during these good years that are coming. By Pharaoh’s authority they should store up grain so the cities will have food, and they should preserve it.This food should be held in storage for the land in preparation for the seven years of famine that will occur throughout the land of Egypt. In this way the land will survive the famine.”This advice made sense to Pharaoh and all his officials.

“ But if the wicked person turns from all the sin he has committed and observes all my statutes and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.None of the sins he has committed will be held against him; because of the righteousness he has done, he will live.

The one who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses them and forsakes them will find mercy.

Through loyal love and truth iniquity is appeased; through fearing the LORD one avoids evil.

“ Have you noticed how Ahab shows remorse before me? Because he shows remorse before me, I will not bring disaster on his dynasty during his lifetime, but during the reign of his son.”

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another.

How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him.May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies!The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness.

Is this really the kind of fasting I want? Do I want a day when people merely humble themselves, bowing their heads like a reed and stretching out on sackcloth and ashes? Is this really what you call a fast, a day that is pleasing to the LORD?No, this is the kind of fast I want. I want you to remove the sinful chains, to tear away the ropes of the burdensome yoke, to set free the oppressed, and to break every burdensome yoke.I want you to share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!

When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will preserve his life.Because he considered and turned from all the sins he had done, he will surely live; he will not die.Yet the house of Israel says,‘ The Lord’s conduct is unjust!’ Is my conduct unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your conduct that is unjust?“ Therefore I will judge each person according to his conduct, O house of Israel, declares the sovereign LORD. Repent and turn from all your wickedness; then it will not be an obstacle leading to iniquity.Throw away all your sins you have committed and fashion yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why should you die, O house of Israel?For I take no delight in the death of anyone, declares the sovereign LORD. Repent and live!

Who knows? Perhaps he will be compassionate and grant a reprieve, and leave blessing in his wake– a meal offering and a drink offering for you to offer to the LORD your God!

Therefore produce fruit that proves your repentance,

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

before God’s decree becomes reality and the day of opportunity disappears like windblown chaff, before the LORD’s raging anger overtakes you– before the day of the LORD’s angry judgment overtakes you!Seek the LORD’s favor, all you humble people of the land who have obeyed his commands! Strive to do what is right! Strive to be humble! Maybe you will be protected on the day of the LORD’s angry judgment.

Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people, but we are well known to God, and I hope we are well known to your consciences too.

You must actively help the hungry and feed the oppressed. Then your light will dispel the darkness, and your darkness will be transformed into noonday.The LORD will continually lead you; he will feed you even in parched regions. He will give you renewed strength, and you will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring that continually produces water.Your perpetual ruins will be rebuilt; you will reestablish the ancient foundations. You will be called,‘ The one who repairs broken walls, the one who makes the streets inhabitable again.’

He was a devout, God- fearing man, as was all his household; he did many acts of charity for the people and prayed to God regularly.About three o’clock one afternoon he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God who came in and said to him,“ Cornelius.”Staring at him and becoming greatly afraid, Cornelius replied,“ What is it, Lord?” The angel said to him,“ Your prayers and your acts of charity have gone up as a memorial before God.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight– the only thing that matters is faith working through love.

While Paul was discussing righteousness, self- control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said,“ Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”
