他被趕逐離開人類；他的心變如走獸的心；他的住處同野驢在一起；他受迫而喫草如牛；他的身體被天露滴濕，等到他承認至高上帝在人國中掌權，都隨着自己的意旨立人來管理。而你呢，伯沙撒啊，你是他的兒子，你雖知道這一切，你心仍不自己謙卑，竟對着天上的主高抬自己，叫人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前，你和你大臣、王后、妃嬪竟用這些器皿來喝酒；你又稱頌那些金銀銅鐵、木頭石頭的神，就是那些不能看、不能聽、不能知道的；至於那手中執掌你氣息、那管理你一生行程的上帝、你卻不將尊榮歸與他。『於是從「神在」那裏就有手掌伸出，這文字便題簽出來。以下這句就是所題簽的文字：「彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，烏法珥新。」『這話的解析是這樣：「彌尼」即是：「上帝已經數算了你執掌國政的年日，使它終止」；「提客勒」即是：「你被稱在天平裏，被發現為虧欠的」；「毘勒斯」即是：「你的國崩裂了、歸與瑪代和波斯人。」』於是伯沙撒下了令，人就把紫紅色袍給但以理穿上，把金鍊給他帶在脖子上；又傳出有關於他的公布：使他在國中掌權、居第三位。就在那一夜、迦勒底王伯沙撒就被弒殺了。瑪代人大利烏就取了迦勒底國；那時大利烏約六十二歲。

那個人把塋墓中間當做住所；再沒有人能捆住他，就是用鎖鍊也不能；因為他屢次被腳鐐和鎖鍊捆住，鎖鍊竟被他折斷了，腳鐐也弄碎了；總沒有人能使他馴服。

乃是上帝做判斷者，是他使這人降低，使那人升高。
