Their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.They have mouths but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.They have ears but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.They have hands but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk. They cannot make a sound with their throats.Those who make them are just like them, as are all who trust in them.

On that day people will throw their worthless idols of silver and gold, which they made to worship, to the moles and the bats.

So the king sought advice. Then he made two golden calves, and he said to the people,“ Going to Jerusalem is too difficult for you. Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

Since, then, we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination.

LORD, it is true that the kings of Assyria have devastated the nations and their lands.They have thrown their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but made by human hands— wood and stone. So they have destroyed them.
