『學術士的領袖伯提沙撒啊，因為我知道你裏頭有聖神明之靈，甚麼機密的事都不能使你為難；看哪，這時我夢中所見的異象；你要把它的解析說出來。

但是我聽到了你的事了，聽說你善於解析，能解難題的結。現在你若能讀這文字，把解析告訴我，就可以穿上紫紅色袍，脖子上戴金鍊，在國中掌權、居第三位。』

法老對約瑟說：『上帝既將這事告知了你，那就沒有人像你這樣有見識有智慧了。你可以掌管我的家；我的人民都必須聽從你所吩咐的；惟獨在王位上，我才比你大。』法老對約瑟說：『看哪，我立了你來治理埃及全地。』就脫下他手上的打印戒指，戴在約瑟手上，給他穿上麻絲織的衣服，把金鍊掛在他的脖子上；又讓約瑟坐他的副車，有喝道的在前面呼叫說：『跪下』。這樣，法老就立了約瑟來治理埃及全地。

於是伯沙撒下了令，人就把紫紅色袍給但以理穿上，把金鍊給他帶在脖子上；又傳出有關於他的公布：使他在國中掌權、居第三位。

我要去見那些大人物，對他們說話；因為那班人曉得永恆主所行的路，他們明白他們的上帝的法則。』但這些人呢、竟將軛折斷，將繩索掙開了。

在瑪雲有一個人，他的業務在迦密；那人是個極大的財主：有綿羊三千隻、山羊一千隻；他正在迦密剪羊毛。

他的牲畜有羊七千隻、駱駝三千隻，牛五百對、母驢五百匹；他還有很多僕婢；這人在東方人之中至為昌大。

巴西萊非常老邁，已經八十歲。王住在瑪哈念的時候，是他供養王的：因為他是個極大的財主。

於時王使沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌、在巴比倫省一直高升發達。

如今你逃往你本地去吧；我說我一定要使你大得榮顯，你看，永恆主卻阻止你得榮顯。』

他們來見巴蘭，對他說：『西撥的兒子巴勒這樣說：「求你別讓甚麼事阻止你不到我這裏來；因為我一定要使你非常榮顯；凡你向我說甚麼，我就作甚麼；只求你來、為我咒詛這族。」』

亞蘭王的軍長乃縵在他的主上面前是個大人物，受人景仰，很有體面，因為永恆主曾藉着他使亞蘭人得勝；這人呢、是個有力氣英勇的人，卻患了痲瘋屬之病。

以色列眾人彼此說：『這上來的人你看見了麼？他上來是要向以色列人罵陣的；若有人擊殺了他，王就將大財寶使他成富，將自己的女兒給他為妻，並在以色列人中使他父家自由、免納糧當差。』

現在有幾個猶大人、就是王所派去管理巴比倫省政務的：沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌；王啊，這些人不尊重你，不事奉你的神，也不向你所立的金像下拜。』

尼布甲尼撒王造了一座金像，高六十肘，寬六肘；立在巴比倫省杜拉平原上。

大利烏實行他的旨意、立了一百二十個總督來管理國家；散於全國各地。又在他們以上立了總長三人（但以理是其中之一），使這些總督向他們三人呈報告，免得王精神受虧損。
