Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men.

在你的國中有一個人，他裡面有聖潔之神的靈；你先王年間就發現這人裡面有光明、有悟性、有智慧如同神的智慧；你先王尼布甲尼撒親自任命他為術士、占卜者、迦勒底人和算命者的領袖。你先王這樣做，

「術士的領袖伯提沙撒啊，我知道你裡面有聖潔之神的靈，任何奧祕都難不倒你！你就講說我所看到的夢中異象和夢的釋義吧！

而我聽說過你能講解釋義，解答難題。現在如果你能讀出這文字，並把它的釋義顯明給我，你就必身穿紫袍，項戴金鏈，在國中掌權，位居第三。」

於是法老對約瑟說：「既然神把這一切都向你顯明了，就沒有像你這樣有悟性有智慧的人了。你要管理我的家；我所有的子民都要順從你的話；只有在寶座上的我比你大。」法老又對約瑟說：「你看，我已經委派你管理埃及全地。」然後法老從自己手上取下印戒，戴在約瑟手上，給他穿上細麻衣，把金鏈戴在他的脖子上；又讓約瑟乘自己的副車，喝道的在約瑟前面向人呼喊：「跪下！」這樣，法老委派他管理埃及全地。

伯沙撒下令，人就給但以理穿上紫袍，把金鏈戴在他的頸項上，並宣布他是國中位居第三的掌權者。

在瑪雲有一個人，他的產業在迦密。那人非常富有，有綿羊三千隻，山羊一千隻，那時他正在迦密剪羊毛。

巴爾兹萊很老了，已經八十歲。王住在瑪哈念的時候，他供應了王，因為他是一個非常富有的人。

隨後，王使沙德拉克、米沙克、亞伯尼哥在巴比倫省高升。

以色列人中有人說：「你們看見上來的這人嗎？他上來是為了羞辱以色列的。有誰能擊殺這人，王必賞賜他極大的財富，並且會把女兒賜給他，還會使他的父家在以色列免除賦稅。」

有幾個你所指派管理巴比倫省事務的猶太人，就是沙德拉克、米沙克、亞伯尼哥；王啊，這些人卻不理會你的命令，既不事奉你的神，也不向你所立的金像膜拜！」

尼布甲尼撒王造了一座金像，高六十肘，寬六肘；他把這像立在巴比倫省的杜拉平原上。

大流士認為最好任命一百二十個行政官來管理國家，分治全國，又在他們之上任命三位總督察，但以理是其中之一；這些行政官要向他們三位負責交代，好使王不受損失。
