Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men.

你國中有一個人，他有聖潔神明的靈。先王在世時，曾發現他有神明一樣的灼見、悟性和智慧。先王尼布甲尼撒立他為術士、巫師、占星家和占卜者的首領。

『術士的首領伯提沙撒啊，我知道你有聖潔神明的靈，任何奧秘都難不倒你。請你為我解釋我夢中所見的異象。

我聽說你能釋夢、解惑。你若能讀出牆上的字，把意思告訴我，你必身穿紫袍、頸戴金鏈，在我的國中位居第三。」

法老對約瑟說：「上帝既然把夢的意思指示給你，可見沒人有你這樣的見識和智慧。我要派你管理我家，我的人民都要遵從你的命令，只有我權力比你大。」法老又說：「我現在派你治理埃及全國。」於是，法老摘下手上用來蓋印的戒指，戴在約瑟的手上，給他穿上細麻袍，把金鏈戴在他頸上，讓他坐在自己的第二輛御車上，並有人在御車前高呼：「跪下！」這樣，法老派約瑟治理整個埃及。

於是，伯沙撒下令給但以理穿上紫袍，戴上金項鏈，又宣告他在國中位居第三。

我要找他們的首領說話，因為這些首領明白耶和華的道，知道他們上帝的法令。」然而，他們卻一致違背耶和華的律法，不服從祂的法令。

瑪雲有個富翁擁有三千隻綿羊和一千隻山羊，他的產業在迦密。當時他正在迦密剪羊毛。

七千隻羊、三千隻駱駝、五百對牛、五百頭母驢及許多僕婢。他在東方人中最富有。

那時，巴西萊已經是八十高齡了。王留在瑪哈念的時候，他曾供應王食物，因為他非常富有。

於是，王讓沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌在巴比倫省身居高位。

現在快回家去吧！我說過要給你重賞，但耶和華不讓你得到。」

他們到了巴蘭那裡，對他說：「西撥的兒子巴勒請你務必去一趟，他必有重賞。你要什麼都可以，只求你去為他咒詛那民族。」

乃縵是亞蘭王的元帥，甚得亞蘭王器重，因為耶和華藉他使亞蘭人打了許多勝仗。他是英勇的戰士，只是患了痲瘋病。

以色列人彼此議論說：「看那個人！他是來向以色列軍罵陣的。誰要能殺死他，王必有重賞，還會把女兒嫁給他為妻，並免去他父親家在以色列應繳的賦稅。」

然而，王啊，有幾個猶大人，就是王委派負責巴比倫省事務的沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌，卻不理會你的命令，不事奉你的神明，也不祭拜你立的金像。」

尼布甲尼撒王造了一尊高二十七米、寬二點七米的金像，立在巴比倫省的杜拉平原。

大流士決定設立一百二十個總督治理全國。總督之上，設三個總長，以維護王的統治，但以理是其中之一。
