我見日光之下有一樣智慧，在我看來是偉大的，就是有一人口稀少的小城，遇大君王前來攻擊，修築營壘，將城圍困。城中有一個貧窮的智慧人，他用智慧救了那城，卻沒有人記念那窮人。我就說，智慧勝過勇力；然而那貧窮人的智慧被人藐視，他的話也無人聽從。寧可聽智慧人安靜的話語，不聽掌權者在愚昧人中的喊聲。智慧勝過打仗的兵器；但一個罪人能敗壞許多善事。

那時，尼布撒拉旦護衛長把城裏所剩下的百姓和投降他的降民，以及其餘的百姓都擄到巴比倫去了。

跟隨護衛長的迦勒底全軍拆毀了耶路撒冷四圍的城牆。

於是，但以理進到王所派滅絕巴比倫智慧人的亞略那裏去，對他這樣說：「不要滅絕巴比倫的智慧人，求你領我到王面前，我可以為王解夢。」

一個有智慧的婦人從城上呼叫：「聽啊，聽啊，請你們告訴約押：『近前來到這裏，我好與你說話。』」約押就近前到她那裏，婦人對他說：「你是約押嗎？」他說：「我是。」婦人對他說：「請你聽使女的話。」約押說：「我正在聽。」婦人說：「古時有話說，當在亞比拉求問，事情就可以解決。我在以色列中是和平、忠誠的。你現在想要毀壞這城，以色列的根源，為何你要吞滅耶和華的產業呢？」約押回答說：「不，我絕不吞滅和毀壞！話不是這麼說的，只是因為有一個以法蓮山區的人，就是比基利的兒子名叫示巴，他舉手攻擊大衛王；你們只要把他一人交出來，我就離城而去。」婦人對約押說：「看哪，他的首級必從城牆上丟給你。」婦人憑她的智慧去勸眾百姓，他們就割下比基利的兒子示巴的首級，丟給約押。約押吹角，眾人就離城散開，各回自己的帳棚去了。約押回耶路撒冷，到王那裏。
