“ One from her family line will arise to take her place. He will attack the forces of the king of the North and enter his fortress; he will fight against them and be victorious.

But when one of her relatives becomes king of the south, he will raise an army and enter the fortress of the king of the north and defeat him.

“ There will arise in his place one from her family line who will come against their army and will enter the stronghold of the king of the north and will move against them successfully.

He will turn his attention back to the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble, fall, and be no more.“ In his place one will arise who will send out a tax collector for the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he will be broken, though not in anger or in battle.

“ For look, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and everyone who commits wickedness will become stubble. The coming day will consume them,” says the LORD of Armies,“ not leaving them root or branches.

Let his days be few; let another take over his position.

Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

God, you will bring them down to the Pit of destruction; men of bloodshed and treachery will not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.

He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. He did all these things even though he gave his hand in pledge. He will not escape!

So the LORD cut off Israel’s head and tail, palm branch and reed in a single day.

For one can see that the wise die; the foolish and stupid also pass away. Then they leave their wealth to others.Their graves are their permanent homes, their dwellings from generation to generation, though they have named estates after themselves.But despite his assets, mankind will not last; he is like the animals that perish.This is the way of those who are arrogant, and of their followers, who approve of their words. There is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its shoots will not die.

You planted them, and they have taken root. They have grown and produced fruit. You are ever on their lips, but far from their conscience.

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

Instead, he will honor a god of fortresses— a god his ancestors did not know— with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches.He will deal with the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god. He will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many and distributing land as a reward.
