在頭一隻怪獸面前行使頭一隻怪獸的一切權柄。牠命令世上的人拜曾受了致命傷但已復原的頭一隻怪獸，又行大奇蹟，當眾叫火從天降到地上。牠在頭一隻怪獸面前獲准行奇蹟，欺騙了普世的人，並吩咐他們為受了刀傷卻仍然活著的頭一隻怪獸塑像。牠又獲准給怪獸的塑像生命氣息，使牠不但能說話，還能使所有不敬拜那像的人遭害。牠又強迫所有的人，不論老少、尊卑、貧富、自由人或奴隸，都在右手或額上接受印記。凡沒有蓋上怪獸印記的，就是沒有怪獸的名字或代號的，都不能做買賣。

製造偶像的真是無用，他們珍愛的偶像毫無價值。拜神像的人目盲眼瞎，愚昧無知，自找羞辱。

拿著七碗的七位天使中有一位前來對我說：「你過來！我要讓你看那坐在眾水之上的大淫婦將要遭受的刑罰。地上的君王與她行淫，地上其他人也因喝了她淫亂的酒而酩酊大醉。」那時，我被聖靈感動，被天使帶到曠野，在那裡見到一個婦人騎著一隻朱紅色的怪獸。怪獸有七頭十角，渾身寫滿褻瀆上帝的名號。那婦人身穿紫色和朱紅色的袍子，用黃金、寶石及珍珠裝扮自己。她手中拿著金杯，裡面盛滿了她淫亂的污穢、可憎之物。在她額上還寫了一個神秘的名號：「大巴比倫——地上淫婦及可憎事物之母」。

聖靈明確地說，日後必有人離棄真道，去追隨那些迷惑人的邪靈和鬼魔的學說。
