基甸见他是耶和华的使者，就说：“哎呀！主耶和华啊！因为我真的面对面看见了耶和华的使者。”

他又说：“只是你不能看见我的面，因为没有人看见我还可以存活。”

耶稣说：“这样，大卫被圣灵感动，怎么还称他为主，说：‘主对我主说：你坐在我的右边，等我把你的仇敌放在你脚下？’

从来没有人见过神，只有在父怀里独一的儿子将他表明出来。

耶和华的使者不再向玛挪亚和他的妻子显现了。那时，玛挪亚才知道他是耶和华的使者。玛挪亚对他的妻子说：“我们一定会死，因为我们看见了神。”他的妻子却对他说：“耶和华若有意要我们死，就不会从我们手中接受燔祭和素祭，不会将这一切事指示我们，这时也不会让我们听到这话。”

你们还要说：‘看哪，你仆人雅各在我们后面。’”因雅各说：“我藉着在我前面送去的礼物给他面子，然后再见他的面，或许他会宽容我。”
