In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel( who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.

It was the third year that Cyrus, the king of Persia, ruled over Babylon. At that time I was living in Babylon. There the people called me Belteshazzar. A message from God came to me. It was true. It was about a great war. I had a vision that showed me what it meant.

所說二千三百日的異象是真的，但你要將這異象封住，因為關乎後來許多的日子。」

如此，這但以理，當大流士王在位的時候和波斯王塞魯士在位的時候，大享亨通。

太監長給他們起名：稱但以理為伯提沙撒，稱哈拿尼雅為沙得拉，稱米沙利為米煞，稱亞撒利雅為亞伯尼歌。

這四個少年人，神在各樣文字學問上賜給他們聰明知識；但以理又明白各樣的異象和夢兆。

天使吩咐我說：「你要寫上：凡被請赴羔羊之婚筵的有福了！」又對我說：「這是神真實的話。」

但以理在王面前回答說：「你的贈品可以歸你自己，你的賞賜可以歸給別人；我卻要為王讀這文字，把講解告訴王。

但以理啊，你要隱藏這話，封閉這書，直到末時。必有多人來往奔跑，知識就必增長。」

「塞魯士王元年，他降旨論到耶路撒冷神的殿，要建造這殿為獻祭之處，堅立殿的根基。殿高六十肘，寬六十肘，

現在我來，要使你明白本國之民日後必遭遇的事，因為這異象關乎後來許多的日子。」

從波斯王塞魯士年間，直到波斯王大流士登基的時候，賄買謀士，要敗壞他們的謀算。

但所羅巴伯、耶書亞，和其餘以色列的族長對他們說：「我們建造神的殿與你們無干，我們自己為耶和華－以色列的神協力建造，是照波斯王塞魯士所吩咐的。」

猶大長老因先知哈該和易多的孫子撒迦利亞所說勸勉的話就建造這殿，凡事亨通。他們遵着以色列神的命令和波斯王塞魯士、大流士、亞達薛西的旨意，建造完畢。

論塞魯士說：他是我的牧人，必成就我所喜悅的，必下令建造耶路撒冷，發命立穩聖殿的根基。我－耶和華所膏的塞魯士；我攙扶他的右手，使列國降伏在他面前。我也要放鬆列王的腰帶，使城門在他面前敞開，不得關閉。我對他如此說：

至於法老兩回做夢，是因神命定這事，而且必速速成就。

然而巴比倫王塞魯士元年，他降旨允准建造神的這殿。神殿中的金、銀器皿，就是尼布甲尼撒從耶路撒冷的殿中掠去帶到巴比倫廟裏的，塞魯士王從巴比倫廟裏取出來，交給派為省長的，名叫設巴薩，對他說可以將這些器皿帶去，放在耶路撒冷的殿中，在原處建造神的殿。於是這設巴薩來建立耶路撒冷神殿的根基。這殿從那時直到如今尚未造成。』現在王若以為美，請察巴比倫王的府庫，看塞魯士王降旨允准在耶路撒冷建造神的殿沒有，王的心意如何？請降旨曉諭我們。」

他說：「但以理啊，你只管去；因為這話已經隱藏封閉，直到末時。

他改變時候、日期，廢王，立王，將智慧賜與智慧人，將知識賜與聰明人。

波斯王塞魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗藉耶利米口所說的話，就激動波斯王塞魯士的心，使他下詔通告全國，說：「波斯王塞魯士如此說：耶和華－天上的神已將天下萬國賜給我，又囑咐我在猶大的耶路撒冷為他建造殿宇。你們中間凡作他子民的，可以上去，願耶和華－他的神與他同在。」波斯王塞魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗藉耶利米口所說的話，就激動波斯王塞魯士的心，使他下詔通告全國說：「波斯王塞魯士如此說：『耶和華天上的神已將天下萬國賜給我，又囑咐我在猶大的耶路撒冷為他建造殿宇。

塞魯士王也將耶和華殿的器皿拿出來，這器皿是尼布甲尼撒從耶路撒冷掠來、放在自己神之廟中的。波斯王塞魯士派庫官米提利達將這器皿拿出來，按數交給猶大的首領設巴薩。

在他裏頭有美好的靈性，又有知識聰明，能圓夢，釋謎語，解疑惑。這人名叫但以理，尼布甲尼撒王又稱他為伯提沙撒，現在可以召他來，他必解明這意思。」

他指教我說：「但以理啊，現在我出來要使你有智慧，有聰明。你初懇求的時候，就發出命令，我來告訴你，因你大蒙眷愛；所以你要思想明白這以下的事和異象。

末後那照我神的名，稱為伯提沙撒的但以理來到我面前，他裏頭有聖神的靈，我將夢告訴他說：

現在我將真事指示你：「波斯還有三王興起，第四王必富足遠勝諸王。他因富足成為強盛，就必激動大眾攻擊希臘國。

到了時候，這話必然應驗；只因你不信，你必啞巴，不能說話，直到這事成就的日子。」

我又聽見烏萊河兩岸中有人聲呼叫說：「加百列啊，要使此人明白這異象。」

他們又將銀子給石匠、木匠，把糧食、酒、油給西頓人、泰爾人，使他們將香柏樹從黎巴嫩運到海裏，浮海運到約帕，是照波斯王塞魯士所允准的。
